    Manufacturing Learning and Development Manager

    Job purpose

    To develop, plan and deliver the learning and development strategy for the Brits Bridgestone Manufacturing Plant, in collaboration with stakeholders. Contribute towards success of the employees and managers by promoting the culture of continuous learning across the Brits manufacturing plant.


    Main responsibilities

    • Develop and implement the L&D strategy in collaboration with the plant manager, production managers and other relevant stakeholders.
    • Oversee the implementation of learning needs analysis process to guide the learning and development programs and plans
    • Lead the compilation of WSP and execution of ATR to address individual and organisational skills requirements
    • Report the effectiveness and impact of the learning programs and plans and identify areas of improvement to key stakeholders.
    • Attend plant leadership meetings to guide managers on L&D initiatives, legislative requirements, policies and procedures
    • Identify external service providers who are aligned with the company’s mission and values
    • Establish and maintain relationships with MerSeta, learning institutions and external service providers
    • Together with the production managers, implement strategies for operator and technician development
    • In collaboration with SHEQ ensure that the necessary training takes place
    • In collaboration with Quality department, ensure proper preparations for audits and implement appropriate remedial actions
    • Develop annual budget for the plant
    • Monitor and report expenditure against approved budget
    • Signoff performance contracts for the team and conduct regular performance reviews
    • Build team capability through mentoring and coaching
    • Custodian of skills development to meet BBBEE targets
    • Champion the culture of learning and development in the plant
    • Keep abreast with best practices and development in training
    • Benchmark training with industry standards and make adjustments for continuous growth

    Required capabilities

    • Knowledge and understanding of SETA's and SAQA
    • Understanding of skills development legislation
    • Sound knowledge of learning and development theory and best practice
    • Knowledge of HR, Learning and Industry-related legislation including SHE and Risks applicable to Industry
    • Knowledge of financial principles
    • Management skills: Strong management skills, abilities, knowledge and experience to successfully plan, lead, organise and control.
    • Functional/Technical Expertise: Has the skills, abilities, knowledge and experience to be successful in functional area of expertise. Dedicates time and energy to keeping abreast of the latest information related to area of expertise and technology. Picks up on technology quickly. Does well in technical courses and seminars. Produces high quality work in organised and timely fashion
    • Analytical Skills: ability to identify performance improvement opportunities and gaps, conduct analyses, and develop solutions that will deliver the desired results through training programs.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Threat others with respect. Shares views in a tactful way. Demonstrates diplomacy by approaching others about sensitive issues in non-threatening ways. Considers and responds appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others. Fosters an environment conducive to open, transparent communication among all levels and positions. Takes the initiatives to get to know internal and external stakeholders
       

    Education:

    • Must have Bachelor’s Degree in HR or Behavioral Sciences or a relevant qualification
    • Honors Degree in HR or Behavioral Sciences (NQF level 7 – 480 points) - advantageous

    Experience:

    • 5 - 8 years’ experience in Learning and Talent Management or in an OD environment.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Manufacturing industry will be an advantage
    • Proven track record of implementing continuous improvement processes in a manufacturing environment
