Legal Assistant at MultiChoice

Purpose of the Position

• To provide legal support for the Legal: SuperSport team, by conducting legal research, providing legal advice, and independently drafting and negotiating and reviewing low value content contracts.  Providing efficient contract management support including preparing of contract extracts and deliverables summaries for business units to ensure compliance , reporting and legal record keeping and special projects as determined by SuperSport Head of Legal.

Key Performance Objectives

Legal Support

• Assist with advice on IP and sport rights related queries, commercial transactions and corporate governance
• Assist with negotiating, reviewing and drafting of various media related agreements (i.e. various content acquisitions agreements, sports rights, ISP and freelancer agreements, entertainment law agreements, sponsorship and advertising related agreements, commercial agreements, IP agreements)
• Negotiation, review and drafting of low value content and rights agreements
• Assist with litigation matters, and potentially litigious matters
• Liaise with, and help manage external parties (including outside attorneys)
• Conduct legal research
• Assist in preparing and hosting of legal workshops for various business units.

Qualifications: Essential

• An LLB or currently or at an advanced stage of studying towards an LLB.

Experience

• At least one years’ experience in a legal environment dealing with contracts and legal-related matters
• OR A minimum of one years’ experience with content/media / sports rights orbroadcasting related contracts or matters.
• Experience in the broadcasting industry will be advantageous

Technical Competencies

• Contract administration experience
• Understanding of essential elements of content and sport rights contracts
• Basic drafting skills
• Research skills
