Summary
The Lead Ammonia Process Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services covering all project stages including pre-feasibility, concept, FEED and some detailed engineering for both minor and major projects. The work will have a focus on ammonia production projects but will be varied and stimulating, covering greenfield developments, brownfield upgrades and operations support. The scope of works will be both in the oil & gas sector as well as the growing energy transition sector.
The Lead Ammonia Process Engineer will oversee and guide the development of process engineering deliverables ensuring they meet the project’s scope, are delivered on schedule and budget, and meet Hatch’s quality standards. The role requires the engineer to develop solutions in all areas of the process plant across various systems, unit operations and process equipment. In addition, the Lead Process Engineer will liaise with other disciplines to ensure the process intent of the plant is maintained throughout the design life.
Scope Of Activities
As the successful candidate, you will:
The Lead Process Engineer will be responsible for the following through the full project lifecycle:
- Process design basis, design criteria, process simulations, PFDs, P&IDs development, HAZOPS, HAZID, SIL, and safety integrity of the plant design
- Design calculations and data sheets for unit operations
- Technology licensor packages review and selection methodology
- Relief and flare load estimation, depressurization, flare studies and system design
- Operating and control philosophies
- Review of operating and capital cost estimates
- Participate and/or lead development and maintenance of expertise in specific areas
- Study and project management with direct responsibility for meeting quality, schedule and cost requirements
- Interfacing with clients through progress meetings, presentations and site visits
- Technical management and supervision of engineers performing process and multi-discipline studies
- Development of work plans, schedules and estimates for execution of complete studies / projects
- Assisting less experienced process engineers in developing their process engineering skills
- Performs most assignments independently. Receives technical guidance from the Process Manager on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
You Bring To The Role
Qualifications and Experience
- 10+ years of professional experience in ammonia production engineering, ideally with a background in working for consultancy organizations executing conceptual, FEED, PMC and EPCM scopes.
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering from a recognized University.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Highly numerate with a good working knowledge of the company and international codes and standards, including API, ISO, ASME, ISA, Shell DEPs, BP GPs etc.
- Experience in industry standard software such as HYSYS, Unisim, Flare System Analyzer, Pipesim, Phast, Flaresim, etc.
- Experience in energy transition scopes including hydrogen, CCUS and decarbonization.
- A high degree of understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies related to the discipline would be an advantage.
