    Junior Lecturer: ENLS 112 & ENLS 122 (V002743)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    For the appointed candidate to teach the English Language in Context module (ENLS112), English Language for Professional Purposes module (ENLS122) and other related modules in the English Subject Group, at the Mahikeng Campus, North-West University.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching & Learning:

    • Take responsibility for a full lecturing load as regards the ENLS modules, related administrative tasks, guided development of learning materials, setting of tests and examinations.

    Academic Leadership and Administration:

    • Fulfilling managerial tasks and administrative duties in service of the University, as required of and related to the position within the subject group and as opportunities arise (e.g. at School / Faculty-level).

    Post graduate studies and research:

    • Be active in research through self-development, attend workshops in research in pursuit of furthering one’s academic qualifications and publishing articles etc.
    • It is mandatory to register for master’s studies / programme within the first year of employment.
    • Contribute towards the research output of the School of Languages.

    Social Responsiveness/Community engagement:

    • Participate in community engagements through community projects and collaboration with Stake holders where necessary.

    OHS (Occupational Health and Safety):

    • Co-operate with management, OHS officials, and colleagues to help everyone meet their legal requirements, while upholding and maintaining general occupational health and safety standards and practices.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Bachelor of Arts with Honours (NQF level 8) in English (Linguistics) or relevant field.
    • A minimum of one (1) year tutorship/ lecturing experience.

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Competence in speaking, reading, writing and listening skills in English.
    • Competence in advanced grammatical concepts and principles.
    • Applicant should be knowledgeable in the use of technology.
    • Fundamental knowledge of key issues in the development of Applied Linguistics.
    • Computer literacy.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Package (e.g. MS Word, Excel).
    • Administration soft and hard skills - excellent administrative and organising ability.

    KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Applicant should be a team player and relate well with colleagues and peers.
    • Result-oriented.
    • Work under pressure.
