    Internship: Safety, Health and Environment(SHE)

    • The CSIR has an internship opportunity for Safety Health, Environment (SHE) in the Safety, Health and Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Portfolio. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the SHEQ team in the provision of Biodiversity and Environmental management activities in order to ensure compliance with the applicable SHE legislative requirements. This position is based in Pretoria.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Monitoring of compliance with national, provincial, municipal and other relevant environmental legislation;
    • Assisting with coordinating Health, Safety and Environment activities at CSIR sites;
    • Assisting with investigations on incidents and accidents;
    • Assisting with inspecting, monitoring and evaluating biodiversity programs for value and effectiveness;
    • Supporting the communication activities of all ongoing projects;
    • Supporting the team with a range of administrative functions on a day-to-day basis;
    • Routine recording and reporting of environmental activities;
    • Participating in both internal and external SHEQ audits and tenant inspections;
    • Participating in environmental awareness drives (recycling awareness, environmental impact awareness, etc).

    Qualifications, Skills And Experience

    • A three year qualification in Biology, Environmental Science or a related field;
    • Valid driver’s license;
    • Good communication skills;
    • Knowledge of SHE Management Systems;
    • Knowledge of SHE regulatory frameworks e.g. OHS Act, NEMA etc., is an advantage;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills;
    • Membership of environmental organisations will be advantageous;
    • All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
