Industrial Engineer - Truworths Distribution Centre at Truworths

Job Description

• The successful incumbent would provide support on initiatives at the company’s Distribution Centres and in other parts of the business, as and when they may develop.
• We are looking for a results driven individual, with a hands-on approach who is precise and accurate. You would need to be system and process orientated with a highly analytical mind, and be able and willing to work very closely with operational staff within the Distribution Centres.

Key Responsibilities    

•  Develop full scale project definition documents including objectives, scope and plans for projects that the industrial engineer is tasked to do.
•  Ensure that project plans are planned, finalized and executed within budget and timelines, all required resources are allocated and keep detailed administrative control of the project and that appropriate project risk management is done.
•  Coordinate and manage all recycling activities and take full line management responsibilities for the recycling department.
•  Liaise with the SHE Manager in order to determine any industrial engineering tasks or activities which need completion as part of health and safety initiatives.
•  Assist management in the developing Business Continuity plans for all DCs.
•  Proactively look for cost saving initiatives and make proposals for suggested new projects in this area on an ongoing basis.
•  Create and support a culture of continuous improvement. Ensure that Supervisors and managers strive to continuously challenge and improve production processes.
•  To assist DC management in studying and optimizing production workflows, layouts, processes, mechanical and IT engineering, and the productivity and performance standards, including the use of time study and activity sampling techniques.
•  To provide Industrial Engineering support on DC initiatives at the company’s distribution centres and in other parts of the business, as they may develop. This will include support to Operations, Maintenance, Systems, SHE and Project Managers within the wider business.
•  To develop effective working relationships with external equipment suppliers and engineers, as well as external logistic partners for Inbound and Outbound logistics.
•  Assist DC management with the integration and training of WMS & WCS procedures. This will include working closely with IT system management teams.
•  Manage and drive Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) - develop relevant SOP's for all DC processes/procedures and flows.
•  Understands and analyzes the risks of complex processes with a strong basis on project methodologies and principles. Applies sound discretion and judgement in balancing competing demands and priorities.
•  Enthusiastically drives development of all team members.
•  Constructively & fairly deals with poor performance (application of IR procedures).
•  Ensures accurate and timeous completion of staff documentation e.g. Leave, maternity, training records, etc.
•  Assist with the recruitment of people who meet the Truworths competencies and values.
•  Effectively inducts new and transferring employees into the team.

 Drive and implement 5s at all DCs.
Qualifications and Experience    Qualification/s:

•  Relevant tertiary qualification: Degree or Masters in Industrial Engineering

Experience / Knowledge:

•  1 -2 years of experience in operational process implementation, re-engineering and optimisation advantageous
•  Advanced computer literacy (MS-Office)
•  Strong mathematical/numerical and analytical ability and affinity
•  Administrative skills and experience required (Tender Processes, Requests for Proposal,Purchase orders, Invoices, statements, reconciliations)
