    Environmental Manager: Compliance - Ngodwana

    As an Environmental  Manager: Compliance, you will be responsible for:

    • Maintain the environmental management system and review frequently Forests compliance and continous improvement. 
    • Formulate relevant policies and procedures to meet with external certification, legal and international best practice requirements for Forests.
    • Prepare and distribute reports reflecting Forests environmental management and compliance status on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
    • Provide technical and environmental compliance knowledge to stakeholders and assist with publicity by writing and reviewing articles for publication, attending public meetings and representing Sappi Forests at public fora and exhibitions etc.
    • Maintain membership and/or foster close liaison with professional associations, industry leaders and/or service providers in the environmental management field. 
    • Foster close liaison with and, where appropriate, represent Forests on community and relevant industry forums
    • Engage with external authorities through appropriate forums or directly to manage permit, license and other statutory requirements for forestry operations as well as for future projects both at strategic or implementation phase.
    • Ensure that legal requirements are complied with in all respects, the required registers are maintained, and the necessary documentation and investigations are forwarded to the relevant Government Departments.
    • Ensure that compulsory incident reporting to the authorities by the Employer meets with prescribed procedures and occurs within set deadlines.
    • Ensure that all forestry activities comply with relevant environmental laws and regulations.
    • Direct the Environmental Specialist in the identification and assessment of environmental risks and receive recommendations to reduce the risk of non-compliance to legal and or permit/licence requirements.
    • Develop and manage the integrated risk and associated management systems, ensuring that policies and procedures are incorporated into the relevant risk management system and are available to users for business compliance.
    • Review integrated risk systems for new developments by assessing new products to keep the RMS at the forefront of technology.

    What are we looking for?

    • Post Graduate or Honors degree in a relevant environmental management field.
    • Masters degree (Environmental Management/Science/Law) advantageous.
    • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in environmental management and implementation of compliance within a Forestry/Production/Industry environment.
    • Indepth knowledge of environmental legislation and licencing processes.
    • Knowledge of FSC and PEFC certification requirements.
    • Proficient in computer applications (IsoMetrix, Metabuilder, Exclaim).
    • Registration with relevant professional body
    • Valid Driver’s license
