    Energy And Metering Specialist

    ROLE PURPOSE

    • Sustainability data handling, analytics, and reporting; energy and water management; energy assessments and audit; utilities metering strategies; benchmarking of buildings in respect of utilities performance; benefit/ performance tracking and reporting; and implementation of utilities optimization and sustainability initiatives.

    MAIN OUTPUTS

    Sustainability/ ESG data management

    • Review, document, and maintain sustainability/ ESG data collection processes.
    • Assess and monitor availability, quality and integrity of data and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate timely interventions.
    • Develop and implement Data Improvement Plans to ensure that data is reliable, complete, auditable and is of high integrity and accuracy.
    • Gather, validate, and consolidate sustainability data.

    Monitoring, measurement, and sustainability/ ESG performance review

    • Analyze data and provide critical insights.
    • Track and review performance against pre-determined baseline and targets.
    • Benchmarking performance against appropriate benchmarks - against past performance (internal benchmarking), peers (external benchmarking/ best in class) as well as national and international best practice (reference benchmarking).
    • Benefit tracking and reporting of implemented sustainability initiatives.

    External assurance of sustainability/ ESG information

    • Preparing for the external assurance process.
    • Supporting and coordinating the assurance process.
    • Implement recommended improvements/ changes year on year.

    Metering of utilities

    • Carrying out metering audits, developing utility metering strategies, and executing smart metering projects.
    • Metering data management.
    • Maintenance of the metering infrastructure.
    • Technology development and management – spearheading and managing the upgrade of the online metering system and its integration with relevant client systems.

    Energy management and green buildings solutions

    • Analysis of utilities consumption data to identify optimization opportunities.
    • Carrying out energy assessments and audits (walk through audits, detailed audits, investment-grade audits).
    • Identify, evaluate, prioritize, and implement energy and water cost optimization and smart buildings initiatives on a national basis within the client’s property portfolio to ensure that the KPIs are achieved on a sustainable basis.
    • Benchmarking of buildings, development of energy balances and energy accounting.
    • Keep abreast of the latest energy and water management and green buildings technologies, concepts, best practices and solutions and adapt the same to create value for the client.
    • Measurement and Verification (M&V) of savings realized from completed utilities optimization, utilities account optimization, and green buildings initiatives in a consistent, transparent, and credible manner using internationally accredited M&V protocols (IPMVP) and SANS 50010:2011 (Measurement and Verification of Energy Savings).

    Exploring available potential external sources of project funding and assisting the client in obtaining partial funding from available external funding sources such as Eskom Integrated Demand Management funding schemes, SANEDI, DTI and National Business Initiative (NBI), amongst others.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    The Applicant must meet the following requirements:

    • National Diploma/BTech/ BEng/ BSc (Hons) in Electrical/ Electronic or Mechanical Engineering
    • Membership of at least one of the following is an added advantage: Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) or Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency Confederation (SAEEC)
    • Matric
    • Code 8 Drivers’ License
    • 3 years relevant experience
    • Possession of or working towards achievement of any of the following certifications/ accreditations is an added advantage: Certified Energy Auditor (CEA)/ Certified Energy Manager (CEM)/ Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP)
    • MS Office packages
    • Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
