    DBCM Senior Commercial Manager

    Job Description:

    The Senior Commercial Manager will lead DBCM finance and performance systems to produce high-quality business performance reporting, analytics, and predictive trend analysis. This role supports the Venetia Leadership Team, the GM, and the Venetia Underground Project Director to drive sustainable business performance through commercial acumen and operational integration.

    Key Responsibilities for the Senior Commercial Manager:

    Safety and Health

    • Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles ensuring zero harm.
    • Develop plans to mitigate discipline-specific risks.
    • Conduct safety checks, interventions, and coaching.
    • Ensure site safety compliance for all visitors, including induction processes

    Commercial Continuous Improvement

    • Continuously assess and implement improvement opportunities within Commercial.
    • Provide feedback on finance systems and support standard tool implementation.
    • Provide and drive impactful value add solutions to DBCM challenges.
    • Conduct valuations models to support proposals and business cases.

    Integration / Collaboration & Influence

    • Manage interfaces with Anglo American GSS for service delivery and Group Finance.
    • Act as an interface for budgeting/financial resourcing with IM, Supply Chain, and Legal.
    • Influence change and buy-in of proposed solutions.

    Planning & Budgeting

    • Lead month-end, forecast, and business plans for South African operations.
    • Drive budgeting and forecasting processes, including capital expenditure budgets.
    • Support GM and Venetia leadership in budget development.
    • Prepare scenarios, sensitivities, and risk assessments for budgets and forecasts.
    • Provide business case support for capital expenditure decisions.

    Reporting & Controls

    • Provide timely and high-quality financial reports to Venetia leadership and CFO.
    • Serve as the primary contact for business information and performance reporting.
    • Identify key value drivers and operational cost drivers across the value chain, together with providing solutions to cost pressures.
    • Track financial performance against plans and address variances.
    • Monitor and control capital expenditure utilisation.

    Governance, Sustainability & Social

    • Lead Venetia’s Business Integrity and Risk Management Processes.
    • Cross-Functional Integration: Participate in site-specific cross-functional sustainability integration.
    • Stakeholder Relationships: Build relationships with key local stakeholders.
    • Local Engagement: Engage in site-level local engagement forums where required.

    Other

    • Standardised Financial Processes: Lead the development of standardised and integrated financial management and reporting processes.
    • Financial Systems Maintenance: Input into maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements of financial systems.
    • Data Standards Efficiency: Improve effectiveness and efficiency of data standards and financial systems.

    People& Teams

    • Culture Creation: Foster a purpose-led, high-performing, inclusive, and diverse culture; act as a role model.
    • Team Leadership: Implement effective team leader and member processes, clearly communicate goals, and ensure resource allocation for efficient task performance.
    • Employee Management: Ensure effective management of employees and contractors, holding individuals accountable in line with role authority.
    • People Development: Drive development within the discipline, ensuring team members have the necessary knowledge and skills, addressing gaps with development activities, and planning for succession in critical roles.
    • Incident Investigation: Oversee and allocate resources for high-quality incident investigations, ensuring proper escalation, reporting, and implementation of learnings.

    Qualifications:

    Formal qualifications:

    • Appropriate Finance or Commercial qualification, with a Chartered Accountant being advantageous.
    • Post Graduate/Tertiary qualifications within Business Accounting, Finance, Economics.
    • Proven track record of practical experience in a role of similar complexity, with 10 years’ experience in the mining industry.

    Technical Knowledge and Skills Required

    • Proficiency in managing financial, cost, and capital aspects.
    • Expertise in financial reporting, consolidation, and application of IFRS.
    • Understanding of multi-jurisdictional tax management and risk management.
    • Strong business acumen and analytical skills.
    • Advanced knowledge of accounting packages/software (AFC, HSF, SAP, Excel)
