BI & ETL Developer (Senior) at Discovery Limited

Key Purpose

The core function of the position is to develop and implement data warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions for VitalityLife Systems according to provided specifications, standards and procedures, using various tools and languages but within the architectural standards and guidelines as established within the Discovery group to obtain optimal systems performance.

Development, maintenance and management of both production and development data warehouse environments.

Produce complex specifications and implement systems enhancements. Work with the system architect to define the system design and then develop and test the necessary code that will be deployed.

Key Outputs

The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to the following job functions:

• Design of warehouse environments and object, system architecture and solutions across multiple systems to support business requirements
• Meet with the Systems architect and Systems Analysts to review designs and obtain required approvals
• Meet with Development Manager to generate project schedule
• Production of technical specification documents as required
• Liaise with the Business analyst to clarify the functional specification and attend workshops to determine overall functional design
• Development and data modelling of Business Intelligence solutions.
• Strong technical knowledge across multiple disciplines including Data warehouse ETL, design, modelling and methodologies, Oracle PL/SQL.
• Develop and Maintain systems according to specifications ensuring Optimised & quality code are deployed to ensure no system degradation.
• Develop in a structured environment using versioning control
• Support existing systems by Investigating, identifying and rectifying problems.
• Perform Test, debug and quality assure programmed code Ensure that unit testing is conducted successfully accordingly to the functional specification document, user requirements and test pack.
• The use of specific coding standards agreed to from time to time
• Logging of time spent on tasks according to time keeping policy and daily admin on tasks
• Construct system code in line with the technical specification and delivered within the agreed timeframe as per the project plan.
• Attend all technical, user and team meetings as required
• Ability to communicate clearly and to guard all business relationships in a professional way

• Oracle, PL/SQL
• AWS Warehouse knowledge would be advantageous
• May temporally be responsible for staff supervision
• Insurance Industry experience would be beneficial
• AWS experience would be advantages
• Power BI experience would be advantages
• Cognos experience would be advantages

Education

Education and Experience:

• Matric
• BSc (IT/Computer Science) or any other relevant Computer Science Degree
• Formal Qualification in related competencies

Experience

• Must have a minimum of 5 years Systems Development experience
• Must have a minimum of 5 years Product (Oracle) specific experience
• Must have a minimum of 3 years Oracle PL/SQL experience.
• Must have a minimum of 3 years Data Warehousing experience
• Must have a minimum of 3 years MIS/BI environment experience
• Technical Lead experience
