    Applications Manager - Durban

    Job Description

    • Vector Logistics is seeking an Applications Manager to join our Vector Logistics IT Team. The role will be based in Westville, Durban, and report to the IT Executive.
    • Vector Logistics entrusts the Applications Manager with managing application systems; analysis, configuration and programming and provide technical and business systems leadership on complex projects, acting as the expert in a functional area to maximize business benefits; Helping lead the business into and through the 4th Industrial Revolution; and to constantly look beyond what’s now to co-create what’s next.
    • The Applications Manager will be responsible for managing applications within the Finance and HR business functions and must have a good appreciation for data warehousing and reporting. A key focus will be driving innovation through automation. In addition, the shared services Applications Manager will be responsible for systems development and integration deliverables. They will be required to lead the data strategy for the IT function and work closely with the Supply Chain Analytics team to provide the single source of truth and data warehouse for the business. Ensure the daily reporting needs of the business continue to be delivered and enhanced into the future.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • A minimum of 5 - 7 years of experience is required in a similar field with at least 3 years management demonstrated abilities.
    • A 3-year degree or diploma in Information Technology or Business Management will be required. Specific business process and functional specific qualifications will add additional value.

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    IT Management

    • Manages the resources required to plan, develop, deliver, and support IT services and products to customers.
    • Holds accountability for the change and the maintenance of professional standards.
    • Provides clarity of organization, roles, and responsibilities to internal and external team members to ensure execution of objectives and strategy.
    • Analyses IT resourcing requirements and reviews alternative resourcing options.
    • Determines skills need and prepares resourcing and development plans.
    • Defines performance targets and measures as well as the scope of projects in terms of cost, timing, resourcing, and risk.
    • Leads and drives innovation through use of new technologies to enable business efficiencies and customer experience improvements.

    New Business Models

    • Assesses external trends and environments, incorporating leading edge thinking on IT into the business.
    • Develops new approaches to performing business activities and processes that are made possible by IT.
    • Understands the underlying technology and its applications, assessment of costs, risks and potential benefits.
    • Inputs IT trends and options into business strategic analysis helping senior & executive management.
    • Assesses business opportunities and challenges arising from IT.
    • Identify & implement IT application solutions to address key business requirements within Logistics Execution and Warehouse Management
    • Assess latest technologies and enable mobile solutions that improve efficiencies on in the Logistics Execution and warehouse area that have a positive effect on the end customer experience and service delivery.
    • Ensures individual business processes include IT as the enabler / critical success factor, encouraging functions to prioritize their IT needs.

    Relationship Management

    • Evaluates potential and existing IT partners.
    • Maintains relationships with key partners and suppliers.
    • Manages the service delivery through partners to ensure that service levels are achieved and managed.
    • Provide assistance, advice and leadership in any area associated with IT.
    • Builds credibility with customers and achieves the status of trusted advisor.
    • Communicates a compelling vision of the potential of IT, simulating user interest and sponsorship.
    • Communicates the status and progress of IT initiatives, policies, and possibilities.

    Applications Management

    • Specifies, designs, and maintains database structures to support IT.
    • Works closely with the technology team to coordinate and manage systems patching and upgrades to the SAP environment.
    • Oversees the planning, design, management; execution and reporting of tests using appropriate testing tools and techniques in accordance with agreed standards.
    • Provides support services both to users of the systems and to service delivery functions such as computer operations and help desk.

    Investigates and resolves problems.

    • Provides information about the systems and monitors performance.
    • Evaluates, proposes, implements, and supports new technologies used in modern supply chains and warehouses using mobile & RF technologies.
    • Provides advice or training to users, by making modifications, updating system documentation, manipulating data, or defining enhancements.
    • Manages the installation of software, following plans and standards.
    • Develops, agrees and manages service level agreements operationally, balancing the cost vs. service equation.
    • Monitors and reports performance against standards

    Human Capital Management

    • Oversees a team of individuals and contractors ensuring that service delivery and performance is optimized.
    • Manages talent planning and development within the team.
    • Aspires to constantly improve and inspire delivery through people.
