    Analyst Credit Risk CVM

    Job Summary

    • The purpose of this role is to define the optimal portfolio shape through unpacking, understanding and management of volatile portfolio segments, capital consumption and returns. This role will be responsible for the forecasting of future portfolio profitability, influencing acquisition and collections strategies and setting of risk appetite. In addition, responsible for developing monitoring & tracking management information (MI) of strategies & developing reports to highlight trends to management within the Portfolio.

    Job Description

    Strategy Design & Analysis 

    Develop data driven strategies within Retail Customer Value Management (CVM) team, including:

    • Defining and monitoring of risk appetite, key risk indicator and key value drivers.
    • Set and monitor concentration thresholds to ensure portfolios remain within Credit Risk Appetite (based on Economic Capital consumption, Earning at Risk and Return Weighted Assets) in stress scenarios.
    • Defining the optimal portfolio shape through unpacking and understanding of financial ratio’s including RORC, ROEC, RORWA, ROA, PARCC for identified portfolio segment’s and on account level.
    • Present key credit trends and highlight recommendations and risk mitigation plans to the relevant Risk Management Head by either extracting data from within own team or consolidating data from central MI team.
    • Provide assistance to modelling teams in the form of portfolio/strategy insights, testing of model outputs and possible enhancements.
    • Develop and validate of strategies related to existing customers to best maximize opportunities within the portfolio, including:
    • Indicate data sample used, possible data exclusions and reasons of exclusions.
    • Document strategy design methodology in such a manner that it is transparent and understandable to technical as well as a non-technical audience.
    • Document possible alternative strategies and their impact on the business (i.e. champion/challenger).
    • Obtain buy-in from all stakeholders (e.g. Business, risk, governance) by communicating strategy verbally to both technical and non-technical audience.
    • Liaise with capability team to ensure that strategy is correctly implemented and that timelines are within acceptable standards.
    • Execute unit testing (if required) to ensure that proposed strategy is correctly implemented in credit scoring systems.
    • Continually benchmark current strategies against mandated risk criteria as well as industry standard and best practice benchmarks.
    • Liaise with operational areas to ensure strategies are working optimally.
    • Ensure all strategies comply with Bank's credit risk policies & framework.
    • Maintain documentation of end-to-end profitability and existing customer strategy.

    MI Production 

    • Ensure monthly Portfolio Performance Reports (with commentary) are submitted in accordance with the agreed deadlines and required standards and that all actions are addressed and feedback given in a timely manner.
    • Produce & analyse monthly MI, to provide insightful to support data areas of potential concern & develop remedial action plans.
    • Produce ad-hoc analysis reports on any issues related to the portfolio.
    • Ensure the development of more frequent MI (daily, weekly, monthly, as required).

    Minimum requirements

    • Commercial B Degree in Accounting/Finance/Statistics/Risk Management or equivalent NQF level 7 or higher qualification
    • Three (3) years’ experience in developing data driven analytical strategies in a financial service industry.
    • Three (3) years’ experience in credit risk analysis and strategy development.
    • Three (3) years SAS exposure/experience and appreciation (or other programming language).
    • Three (3) years in depth knowledge of the credit tools and systems used.
    • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and the Internet

    Education

    • Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
