    Job description

    Job Purpose:

    To ensure that water services and related infrastructure provided within a particular area are technically sound, economically justifiable in terms of the Municipality's capital works programme requirements and in terms of relevant legislation and policy.

    Key Responsibility Areas:

    • Undertake the complex design for the provision of water reticulation, trunk mains, pump stations and water storage facilities and all ancillary works and approves and/or audits complex designs from consultants, developers and staff in light thereof.
    • Formulates and monitors conformity to Branch design and drawing standards.
    • Assesses the impact of developments within the eThekwini region on the capacities of existing and proposed water infrastructure.
    • Undertakes comparative evaluations of various complex design possibilities and ensures design standards comply with the relevant Statutory Acts and are environmentally acceptable.
    • Peruse and comments on technical reports and provides information to update the Council's Geographic Information System (GIS) and other relevant asset databases.
    • Assumes responsibility for contract management and reporting requirements associated with the functionality.
    •  Provides input into policy, design and standards formulation and materials evaluation, and monitors the application in light thereof.
    • Assists the Executive in its submission to the Council for inclusion into the Council's capital works programme and to monitor and control project expenditure.
    • Ensures optimum utilisation and development of the available manpower.
    • Ensure an effective overall service and dissemination of information to the customer.
    • Monitor, report and provide assistance to other departments on all Non-Revenue Water reduction initiatives that are being done within the Unit.

    Deputise for Senior Manager: WDNRW.

    Essential Requirements:

    • B.Sc (Engineering).
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
    • Valid motor vehicle drivers license (Code B).
    • 7 years registration experience.
