    Associate Principal, Regulatory Compliance

    Job Description

    Drive, coordinate and monitor initiatives and actions to ensure the Bank operates in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations, policies and standards. Ensure close and effective relationships are maintained with regulators within country and the efficient regulatory change management

    • Awareness and understanding of the firm's business strategy and model appropriate to the role

    • Awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the firm operates

    Processes

    • The job is responsible under the ORF as 1st & 2nd line; for executing / completing, and for supervising]

    People and Talent

    • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.

    Risk Management

    • Responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks to the firm. Also, an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the firm and the role the individual plays in managing them
    • Ensure a full understanding of the risk and control environment in area of responsibility
    • Support South Africa Compliance to comply with the highest standards of regulatory and business conduct and practices as defined by internal and external requirements. Understand and ensure compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines including those governing securities activities, company law, anti-money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions; the Group's policies and procedures; and the Group Code of Conduct. Take personal responsibility for understanding the risk and compliance requirements of the role. Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk and compliance matters.

    Regulatory & Business conduct

    • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
    • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
    • Support South Africa Compliance to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank's Conduct Principles: Fair Outcomes for Clients; Effective Operation of Financial Markets; The Right Environment.
    • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

    Key Stakeholders

    External

    • Counterparts in other financial institutions for Regulatory advice, developments and controls
    • Banking forums for good reputation of the bank

    Internal

    • Country Head of Compliance and Compliance team for Geographic Functional and geographic reporting line
    • Regional Business and Client Segment teams and compliance network in general for Country regulatory risk reporting
    • Operational Risk teams for development of good governance and compliance culture

    Other Responsibilities

    • Embed Here for good and Group's brand and values in South Africa Compliance,
    • Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Relevant Compliance/Legal Qualification
    • 5-7 years experience in Compliance
    • Regulatory Experience
    • FAIS Compliance Officer and Strate Compliance Officer exam for Bonds, Equities and Money Markets
