    Child Rights and Positive Parenting Regional Coordinator

    Job Description

    Key duties and responsibilities

    •  Project administration
    •  Project management and coordination
    •  Research, writing and editing
    •  CRPP Unit processes and management support
    •  Reporting, monitoring and evaluation of the work
    •  Staff management and supervision
    •  Project Administration
    • Update database of key regional child rights partners that work with Sonke and as part of the MenEngage Africa regional network, and who are affiliated to MenCare.
    • Support Sonke partner organisations to integrate MenCare Campaign activities in their annual work plans.
    • Provide programmatic technical support to other Sonke led CRPP activities including MenEngage Africa activities, such as regional campaigns and advocacy initiatives.

    Project Management and Coordination

    • Manage support for projects in project focus countries (Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Mozambique, Kenya, Ethiopia), finalising work plans with partner driven events, and the compilation of partner reports.
    • Develop an annual work plan of activities to be implemented in the project focus countries.
    • Supervise CRPP regional trainers that work in the project implementation sites in focus countries.
    • Participate in unit meetings and linking on behalf of CRPP to other unit activities particularly Child Rights focused activities.

    Research, Writing and Editing

    • Review and update CRPP and MenCare related training materials for the projects in the focus countries.
    • Assist with the development of key priority advocacy campaigns and activities both in South Africa and abroad.
    • Write Save the Children ESARO donor reports with the support of the CRPP Unit Manager.
    • Ensure timely submission of project donor reports to funders, including relevant information for reports on work performed with core support funding.

    CRPP Unit processes and management support

    • Contribute to the writing of project proposals, financial project/s budgets and monitoring and evaluation of plans in consultation with the CRPP Unit Manager.
    • Submission of project reports to funders, including relevant information for reports on work performed with core support funding.
    • Provide support to CRPP team members on parallel projects where necessary.
    • Act as the link between CRPP and the RPN units - national and regional child rights campaign and advocacy activities - (MenCare, Prevention+ and Child Rights regional activities under Sida Zambia).

    Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation

    • Prepare regular monthly reports on CRPP regional coordination work in the project focus countries.
    • Draft and coordinate the submission of donor reports.
    • Track the donor report submission schedule (Save the Children ESARO).
    • Submit all agreed upon reports (project reports, budgets, supervision reports, observation reports, team meeting reports, stakeholder meeting reports) on a monthly basis.
    • Assist with the development of M&E indicators under the guidance of the M&E Manager and in consultation with regional trainers and ensure these are integrated into the CRPP annual work plan.

    Staff Management and Supervision

    • Supervise CRPP regional trainers that work in the project implementation sites in focus countries. Where necessary, supervise the monitoring of project focus country partner organizations activities, requesting and receiving regular project progress reports and budgets. Also, where necessary, supervise consultants or support colleagues to conduct desk research on CRPP child rights activities such as policy analysis.
    • Where necessary accompany CRPP regional trainers to co-facilitate training or conduct projects site visits in the focus countries – at least once a quarter.
    • Provide guidance to CRPP regional trainer/s through a positive leadership example.
    • Actively manage the performance and development of CRPP regional trainer/s.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Education:

    • Bachelor's Degree in gender studies, political sciences, or other related fields; post graduate qualifications an advantage.

    Experience:

    • 1 -2 years experience working on matters related to men, gender, HIV and/or SRHR, child rights and protection, preferably assisting management in these areas.
    • Minimum of 3 years experience in a medium-sized NGO.
    • Demonstrated experience in project planning and management.
    • Experience in assisting with monitoring and evaluation reporting.
    • Familiarity with the Southern and Eastern African region and policies and practices relating to gender, sexual and reproductive health and HIV and AIDS; a focus on men and masculinities an advantage.
    • Experience in networking/coalition building.
    • Experience in policy advocacy on children’s rights in the region

    Skills & competencies:

    • Excellent written and verbal English skills and preferably but not required, another SA language;
    • Display sensitivity with regards to culture, gender, religion, race, nationality and age;
    • Ability to interact with individuals at different levels;
    • Research, writing, application and thought leadership skills;
    • Ability to prepare and give training;
    • Networking and diplomacy skills;
    • Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively;
    • Ability to work under pressure; and
    • Ability to work independently, with distance supervision.
