    Materials Planner

    Job description

    • Responsible for the overall planning and purchasing of direct raw material for the plant and management of the plant’s inventory value.
    • Develop planning system strategies to improve signals across the supply chain
    • Adjust/optimise and manage the parameters in the material planning system.
    • Utilise the Material Requirements Planning system (MRP), IQR and other reporting tools that are in place and ensure that data is accurate and up to date and resolve any issues as required
    • Forecasting Material Requirements and communicate the forecast to suppliers
    • Schedule the supply of materials/components to meet production requirements and minimum safety stock levels
    • Understand and manage risks to minimise impact on production schedule
    • Take follow up actions in relation to material shortages that affect production
    • Finalizing and Placing Purchase Orders for the required Material.
    • Communicating with forwarders to finalize Sea freight shipment once availability confirmed by Supplier
    • Distributing Documents to Forwarder for Clearing Material. Use common processes tools, and information systems.
    • Receiving and coordinating documents to Finance for payment of import VAT and indirect purchases.
    • Analyse and interpret Key Performance Indicators to identify areas for improvement and action plans.
    • Execute the daily operational planning process within a specified functional area.
    • Identify potential supply chain failures as part of the planning process and mitigate associated risks
    • Work closely with stakeholders - internal and/or external to develop short/long term tactical improvements.
    • Use the planning system to drive consistent planning signals across the supply chain
    • Participate in functional process improvement teams
    • Monitor the integrity of Bill of Materials (BOM) and manage inventory accuracy
    • Monitor inventory levels against agreed target levels
    • Updated Requirement Forecast needs to be forwarded to the Suppliers on a monthly Basis to manage VMI process.
    • Indicate the volumes required and the date that the material needs to be on site.
    • Analyze excess and obsolesce inventory on a month to month basis.
    • Support inventory checks to validate inventory accuracy
    • Minimise obsolete stock and ensure business is left with minimum liability
    • Create regular statistical reports and analysis and update others in the organisation

    Skills And Experience

    Experience

    • At least 3-5 equivalent work experience in a supply chain/purchasing role.
    • Previous experience of materials planning ideally in the automotive or manufacturing environment (advantage).
    • Strong IT systems knowledge and skills including advanced Excel skills ,MS Word ,Power Point
    • Knowledge and experience of using MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems or similar
    • Knowledge of lean techniques may be advantageous
    • Knowledge of materials management theories, processes and practices.
    • Highly effective and professional verbal and written communication skills with team, internal customers and suppliers that includes a strong focus on teamwork and internal/external customer satisfaction.
    • Exhibit & encourage sense of urgency.
    • Strong analytical, conceptual, and negotiation skills

    Qualifications

    • Matric
    • Diploma/Degree in Purchase/Supply Chain Management
    • B.S or B.A in applicable field
