    Climate Change and Sustainability Services - Senior Manager - Johannesburg

    The opportunity

    Your key responsibilities

    The nature of this role means no two projects will be the same. That means you’ll need to think on your feet and challenge existing practices to develop answers to complex issues. You’ll also be collaborating with colleagues across multiple service lines and disciplines to provide our clients with integrated solution, so a key part of your role will be to build relationships and develop talent. In a modern hybrid working environment supported by cutting-edge technology, travel and on-site work will still be required from time-to-time as you will be meeting with key clients and overseeing engagement teams.

    Skills and attributes for success

    The successful candidate will have extensive experience in ESG audit and assurance as this will be a large focus of their role, though there will be significant opportunities to contribute to the broader sustainability services that we offer to our clients, spanning climate change and ESG advisory, non-financial reporting, more traditional EHS assessments and outcomes measurement.

    • Excellent audit skills and experience at a senior manager level (>5 years post-articles, >2 years at a senior management level)
    • Experience leading large, complex / multi-location engagements across a range of industries, experience in the extractive and financial sectors would be advantageous
    • Extensive experience in performing / leading ESG assurance engagements in a medium / large audit firm in accordance with ISAE  3000 (Revised), with a strong technical understanding of ESG issues and metrics/ KPIs and good practice frameworks such as GRI
    • Collaborating with partners & clients to influence their approach to ESG and integration into their business strategy, balancing risk and client expectations
    • Understanding of the key sustainability (e.g. environmental, health & safety, energy, carbon management, etc.) issues and drivers and how they link to business and long-term value creation
    • Ensuring our Engagement team thoroughly understands our clients’ unique needs, ambitions and expectations
    • Building relationships with colleagues across multiple service lines to provide a seamless integrated service
    • Managing performance and identifying opportunities to improve our products and processes
    • Experience in supervising, developing and performance managing talent
    • Commercial and leadership skills combined with entrepreneurial mind set.

    To qualify for the role you must have

    • A CA(SA) with an audit focus
    • Strong technical writing skills and advanced risk management knowledge
    • A passion for sustainability with a proven track record in sustainability assurance
    • An understanding of the marketplace, as well as commonly used terminology, processes and tools and the confidence and ability to research and resolve emerging client issues, regulations, frameworks and guidelines
    • A proven record of excellence when managing, mentoring and improving a team of high-performing colleagues

    Associate Director - QEL

    Experienced Manager: Quality Enablement

    The current environment, changes in standards (most notably ISQM 1), increased regulatory activity, and the firm’s focus of the Next wave strategy has resulted in a need for increased depth of the existing QEL function and an appropriate demographic spread of resources across Africa.

    One of the significant controls and coaching activities of the QEL has been to run a pre issuance quality review program for select engagements across Africa to ensure quality in audit files and prevent Inspection findings. Given the growing demand to increase these reviews the QEL is planning to expand these activities. We are looking for experienced assurance resources, preferably from within the firm. Significant institutional knowledge is critical to the success of the role. Consideration will be given to candidates with similar experience from outside the firm.

    Roles and responsibilities:

    • Contribute to the expansion of a high-performing review team that promotes audit quality in the region
    • Identify quality inspection themes and benchmark against AQR, GDS reviews and inspection findings
    • Integrate and facilitate Project Management of QEL initiatives (incl. Canvas Milestones, Archiving, Project Insights, Quality Key Performance Indicators, Partner Workload, pro-active risk monitoring etc.) for engagements under the review program
    • Execute reviews on selected engagements with the Africa region.
    • Project manage the review program including assignment and oversight of reviews performed by Managers, provide inputs on scoping of the review, trouble shoot technical queries. Mentor and guide junior team members.
    • Promote knowledge sharing, coaching and development of best practises between engagements and peers.
    • Provide where required AQR support and participate in root cause analysis of process for engagements that are part of the review process.

    Required skills & experiences:

    • Experienced senior manager with client facing experience of large listed clients – 6 to 9 Years’ experience
    • Strong desire to help and collaborate with the teams and leadership to enhance quality
    • Strong coaching skills in working with audit teams
    • Strong risk management skills
    • Demonstrates commitment in executing key audit quality initiatives
    • Integrity and objectivity; courage to raise concerns 
    • Expert audit knowledge

    • Experience of having faced IRBA / AQR inspections/Regulatory
    • Ability to lead the resolution of more complex inspections and issues on a timely basis

    Pursuit Coordinator 1

    This individual provides day-to-day assistance in a variety of pursuit support roles to assist the Pursuit Team, in producing quality winning proposals.

    Responsibilities

    •  Supports the Pursuit Strategist in the management of the pursuit process
    • Research and present preliminary information on the client (client packs) as directed by the Pursuit Strategist 
    • Proactively provide pursuit teams with local and global best practice
    • Provide on-going support to the Pursuit Strategist / Pursuit Leader with first draft of deliverables, including content, presentations, meeting agendas, booklets and pursuit tools (such as pursuit timeline and action plans)
    • Develops and collates team members CVs as well as credentials and case studies, ensuring standardisation
    • Co-ordinates and follows-up on action items within the pursuit engagement team following direction from Pursuit Strategist
    • Reviews final documents against proposal quality checklist and against RFP, including collation of mandatory information
    • Supports with ad-hoc queries and requests for assistance on pursuit deliverables
    • Occasionally co-ordinate a pursuit meeting in absence of Pursuit Strategist from an action / to do list point of view
    • Schedule meetings as and when required during the pursuit process
    • Updating of Pursuits databases and libraries, including the DAT Portal, Serving as the “hub” of all pursuit-related client-facing materials
    • Aligning and managing administrative resources (Creative Services, BMC, Knowledge, GDS etc.) for key pursuit materials
    • Take initiative in developing pursuit skills beyond shadowing the Pursuit Strategist
    • Being highly responsive to our pursuit teams needs and seeking continuous feedback
    • Being insightful through proactively sharing relevant insights

    Qualifications

    • A tertiary qualification is advantageous
    • 3 – 5 years’ experience in solid project management
    • Proficient in English (verbal and written)
    • MS Office skills (PowerPoint, WORD, EXCEL etc)
    • Attention to detail

    • Excellent critical thinking and analysis skills, and the confidence to identify and resolve         problems   
    • A proven record of excellence in communication and negotiation, supported by the technical writing skills to translate data into compelling stories and meaningful insights.
