    Reliability Analyst

    About 

    • In support of Astron Energy business plan, improve site assets reliability by analyzing equipment failures, to identify and solve root causes, maintaining Asset Strategies (Inspection, Testing and Predictive Maintenance - ITPM), and recommending equipment condition monitoring and surveillance.
    • Support the asset management structure for Refinery business Teams, to ensure that they are maintained, they are safe and available in accordance with Astron procedures and expectations.
    • Support key reliability studies that are intended to drive long-lasting and cost effective asset reliability and availability. Such studies include: Life cycle cost analysis, sRCM, FMEA, ROI (Reliability Opportunity Identification) /IPR (Intensive Process Review), obsolescence review, RCAs and equipment spares management.
    • Through data analysis, identify obsolete critical equipment, elevate for resolution, and develop long-term replacement plans.
    • Use specific knowledge and expertise of equipment, industry and Astron Energy standards and recommended practices to initiate and drive focused equipment reliability improvements, programs, initiatives and processes.
    • Participate in root cause investigations on equipment failures by providing data analysis reports on specific equipment and systems and assist the team to arrive at correct root causes.
    • Provide reliability support to Operations and Maintenance in troubleshooting bad actors and complex trouble shooting. Assist in providing data analysis that may be used to develop overhaul and/or design recommendations.
    • Oversees the implementation of equipment surveillance activities, provide accurate and up-to-date history briefs and IOW (Integrity Operating Widnow) analysis, which will help in issuing overhaul and replacement recommendations.
    • Update and maintain associated documentation, databases, equipment histories, asset strategies, PM frequencies and tasks, condition monitoring/surveillance requirements, etc. for all work performed.
    • Own the documentation and implementation of Asset Strategies in SAP and tracking action completion dates. Findings to be analysed, communicated and resolved timely.

    Support Vulnerability Meetings as a core team member

    • Identify/Submit equipment reliability data/trends and participate in the risk ranking process. Some key data/trends includes; MTBF, MTBR, Status of sRCM, Threats, Bad Actors, IOW, FEAS and RBI data, Spare runs, Lubrication, IR scanning among others.
    • Attend team meetings,
    • Complete all assigned actions items on time.

    Develop and drive equipment Reliability Documentation and Management processes;

    • Supporting Capital and Field Projects from a DFR (Design For Reliability) perspective. Support the validation & implementation of the sRCM recommendations.
    • Bring recommended practices and lessons learned into the DFR process.
    • Provide assistance and support in the Reliability Action Plan (RAP) development and execution.
    • Survey, document and submit equipment into the SAP registry (A/C/D) and ensure that asset strategies are in place and aligned with sRCM studies.
    • Support growth of in-house competency.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required:

    • Professional Qualification and Certifications: B-Tech or Diploma in an engineering field relevant to manufacturing.  Reliability Certification (Certified Reliability Engineer) is recommended. 
    • Work Experience: 5 years’ experience in Process, Ops or R&M 
    • Knowledge and skills: Data analysis, Reliability Strategy Development, Good knowledge of DFR, RCM, FMEA, ROI/IPR, RCA methodologies, condition monitoring, Predictive and Preventative Maintenance, Bad actors and threat management. Understanding of RBI. Ability to perform asset data analyses to support educated data-driven business decisions.

    Area Reliability Engineer

    Reporting to Reliability Lead in Reliability & Maintenance Department, supports cross-functional Area Business Team as key point of contact informing all Reliability issues for that Area.  Coordinate, Facilitate and Advise key stakeholders in other maintenance disciplines, Operations and Technical Service to deliver seamless Plant support and enabling reliability strategies at the Cape Town Refinery.

    • Accountable for driving activities required to deliver longer-term Refinery Process Plants reliability and cost objectives.
    • Acts as Business Team “conscience” so that reliability decisions are made consistent with long-term stable and cost-effective performance.
    • Drive longer-term equipment availability and cost management through development of the Annual Maintenance Plan (including Turnaround work lists)
    • Manage long-term reliability and availability for the Refinery Process Plant.
    • Drive financial  vulnerability risk manager for Process Plant.
    • Oversee competency and training plans for Process Plant support team.
    • Drive reliability improvement at lowest life cycle cost through the effective development and implementation of Equipment Strategies..
    • Support Refinery Process Plants with reliability studies i.e. bad actor improvement process, RCA, RCM, Criticality Analysis, IPR (Intensive Process Review), ROI (Reliability Opportunity Identification), MTBF, MTBR.
    • Coordinate reliability analysis and reliability improvement segment of Process Plant's Tactical Plan.
    • Reviewing existing Process Plant Asset Strategies.
    • Lead Annual Maintenance Plan  / Long term Reliability Plan development & quality.
    • Manage discovered work and out-of-program risks.
    • Custodian of Process Plant maintenance budget, leads analysis of the Cost reconciliation vs  Budget.
    • Coaching relevant stakeholder on Process Plant Reliability best practices.
    • Being a reliability culture change agent and a HRO champion.
    • Acceptable Completion Date setting for maintenance repairs.
    • Coaching the Process Plant on effective financial risk management - cost vs equipment availability
    • Compiling the Process Plant Maintenance Budget and analyzing monthly to enable sound cost management.
    • Provide DFR (Design For Reliability) support to Project Managers and Technical Support department.

    Professional Qualification and Certifications:

    • B-Eng or BSC in Engineering, Chemical, Mechanical, Metallurgy or Electrical preferred; Or
    • B-Tech in Chemical, Mechanical, Metallurgy or Electrical Engineering, coupled with 10 years’ experience in Reliability & Maintenance
    • Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) is preferred.

    Work Experience:

    • 8 Years’ Refinery Experience in Process Plant Support or R&M (Reliability and Maintenance) departments

    Knowledge and skills:

    • Experience in Asset Management:
    • Reliability Strategy Development,
    • Good knowledge in Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Reliability Opportunity Improvement (ROI) process, Intensive Process Review (IPR), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies, condition monitoring, Predictive and Preventative Maintenance, Bad actors and threat management.
    • Understanding of Risk Based Inspection (RBI).   
    • Ability to perform asset data analyses to support educated data-driven business decisions.

    Fixed Equipment Integrity (FEI) Inspector

    Responsible for completion of assigned tasks as a member of the Fixed Equipment Integrity Inspection Team and will participate in the planning and execution of turnarounds, both large and small.  The position will include travel, alternate work schedules, on-call responsibilities and additional work day time dependent on plant conditions and assignments.
    Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to the following:

    •  Evaluate factors affecting the safe and reliable operating condition of the fixed equipment in assigned process units.
    •  Inspection of fixed equipment, issuing recommendations for repair and documenting results in an electronic database.
    •  Create, organize and execute on-stream and turnaround surveillance/inspection plans.
    •  Maintain compliance with company policies and applicable industry codes and standards to assure mechanical integrity and reliable operation.
    •  Enforce requirements of a mechanical integrity program through development and maintenance of established computer-based equipment inspection plans for fired and unfired boilers, process heaters, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pressure safety/relief valves/devices and piping.
    •  Identify, analyze and solve issues related to repeat failures or threats to mechanical integrity.
    •  Participate in failure analysis / incident investigations to determine root cause and help develop long-term solutions to prevent failures.
    •  Consistently communicate with Operations, Maintenance, Process and Mechanical Engineering Design personnel to ensure stakeholder engagement and multifunctional discipline problem solving.
    •  Periodically requires working beyond the typical 40-hour work week including weekends and holidays.
    •  Periodically requires alternate work schedules (shift work) and on-call coverage as part of an integrated response team
    •  Ability to analyze data, calculate corrosion rates, predict remaining life, and determine damage/failure mechanisms for process equipment, piping, and tanks.
    •  Use of Risk Based Inspection methodologies and knowledge of industry recognized codes and standards.
    •  Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Meridium, Maximo, SAP) needed to maintain the Refinery electronic condition monitoring and historical database and report findings and resolutions.
    • Will be required to hold/attain certifications to include API 570, API 510, API 653, SAQCC CP pressure vessels, SAQCC steam generators. Certification as SAQCC Inspector of Pressurized equipment will be an advantage

    Qualifications Required

    • B. Sc/ BTech in Mechanical or materials engineering or equivalent N qualifications plus industry experience and certifications
    • 5+ years prior Inspection experience working in the refining or petrochemical industry required
    • SAQCC Competent Persons Pressure Vessels (CPPV), SAQCC Competent Persons Steam Generators (CPSG).
    • Currently holds one or more American Petroleum Institute (API) or National Board inspection certifications (API 570, API 510, API 653, NBIC). 
    • Certified SAQCC Inspector Pressure Equipment (IPE) an advantage.

    Project Manager / Engineer

    Managing the execution of a portfolio of multidisciplinary capital projects in a refinery environment.
    Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

    • Managing the execution of a portfolio of multidisciplinary capital projects in a refinery environment.
    • The incumbent will manage project processes to ensure world class standards are met on the technical, planning, and financial controls of the project.
    • Develop and maintain project scopes of work, execution packages, cost estimates, budgets, schedules, and resource estimation.
    • Prepare and coordinate stage gate meetings and reviews to ensure stakeholder buy-in and compliance with Astron Energy processes. 
    • Ensure development and tracking of project execution plan activities as required per project stage.
    • Manage procurement activities of materials, long lead items, bid evaluation, appointment of contractors etc.
    • Ensure the project team reviews and approves technical documents, drawing packages, equipment and material bid packages according to core discipline skill.
    • Manage the outputs of EPCm companies.
    • Manage projects to deliver against the required quality, cost, and schedule criteria.
    • Coordinate interface activities between, internal stakeholders, field construction, engineering contractors, project team members, vendors, and field operations personnel, including coordination of management of change activities.
    • Provide regular and appropriate reporting.

    Required Qualifications:

    • BSc Engineering / B. Eng or B Tech
    • Disciplines: Mechanical or Process Engineering
    • Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in Petro Chemical / oil and gas environment
    • Experienced / Senior Project Manager
    • Project Management certification

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • BSc Mechanical Eng
