    Senior Property Underwriter

    What will you do?

    • Commercial Underwriting has a position available for a Senior Commercial Property Underwriter and will based at our Alice Lane Office in Johannesburg.  This role will report to the Manager: Commercial Property Underwriting.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • The individual is required to fulfil all Senior Property Underwriting functions to ensure Santam’s Commercial Property Portfolio achieves its profit and growth targets within the parameters of our risk appetite, as determined by the Board. 

    PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE: 

    • Making Property Underwriting decisions within the individual’s mandate in support of the Commercial Underwriting Portfolio, including business written within Segment Solutions (Privé, Santam Real Estate, Guesthouse and Tourism and Agriculture), in support of our profit and growth targets.
    • Reviewing of Property Underwriting Mandates of individuals outside the Senior Property Underwriting team, including enhancing Property Mandate assessments and assessment criteria.
    • Training and upskilling Santam staff with regards to Property Underwriting.
    • Manage various aspects of the Property portfolio, as needed, with regards to profit, growth and underwriting adherence.
    • Enhance our underwriting rules to balance customers’ needs with Santam’s risk appetite.   
    • Produce comprehensive, well thought through business cases to proposals for changes to risk appetite, if needed.
    • Research and development of new Commercial insurance covers and products to meet clients’ needs as the risk environment changes and to ensure market competitiveness.
    • Determine business specifications for the design and development of the Commercial Property offerings in Policy Centre.
    • Maintain, create and sign off on all policy wordings, Broker guidelines and implementation of any regulatory requirements, for all Santam’s Commercial offerings, including Agri, Wine, Schools, Tourism & Guesthouse etc. with regards to Property and General sections.
    • Work with Actuaries to determine appropriate rating structures for Commercial Property Sections for all Commercial offerings (incl. Agri).
    • Develop rating tools/solutions for these classes of business for use by external business partners.
    • Assist in maintaining and amending our National Survey Policy which determines which risks need to be surveyed at what stage of the policy lifecycle.
    • Work with our underwriting, surveying and distribution teams to ensure that we meet our Property Underwriting objectives and ensuring that we adhere to our risk appetite and individual mandates at all times.
    • Interact and assist Brokers and Partners from time to time, as needed with regards to Property Underwriting queries.
    • Provide consistent and excellent service delivery in line with Santam Experience requirements at all times.
    • Assist in developing and building specialist Property technical underwriting skills within Santam, ensuring appropriate succession plans in place at all times.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree or relevant insurance related diploma: AIISA or FIISA or similar 
    • Recommendation: Management or Leadership qualification 
    • Must be able to demonstrate property underwriting ability and expertise
    • Proven track record of ideally at least 10 years’ experience within a Commercial Underwriting environment, ideally with specialist Property Underwriting experience
    • Knowledge of (and understanding of the impact of) the relevant legislation on the business e.g. Building regulations etc.
    • Advance Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

    Sales Consultant: East Rand

    What will you do?

    • Santam Travel Insurance has a position available for a Sales Consultant, based in the East Rand. 
    • The person will service the East Rand, Gauteng as well as outlying areas and will need to reside in the East Rand.  

    What will make you successful in this role?

    The successful incumbent will be required to service, market and sell short term insurance products

    • Servicing intermediaries and brokers; this will include monthly in person visits, queries and claims management, monitoring and increasing sales, reporting on sales and relationship building.
    • Training intermediaries and brokers in the portfolio on products and systems. 
    • Servicing corporate clients. 
    • Attending workshops, conferences or any public relations events when required – these activities may occasionally take place afterhours or over weekends.   

    Qualification and Experience

    • Minimum Matric 
    • RE accreditation
    • Relationship management in Broker environment, not negotiable
    • Previous work experience in an unsupervised role highly advantageous
    • Valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle
    • Computer literate (Intermediate Excel, PP, Word and Outlook) 
    • Tertiary education an advantage 
    • Sales and marketing experience an advantage

    Investor Relations and Investment Manager

    What will you do?

    • A position of an Investor Relations and Investment Manager exists within Santam Corporate Services, based at our Head Office in Cape Town. 
    • The purpose of this role is to develop and implement investor relations strategies including informing, consulting and involving stakeholders where relevant. In addition, to oversee investment processes and drive governance. 

    What will make you successful in this role?

    Investor Relations 

    • To develop a robust investor relations strategy and framework
    • To manage equity research and investor relationships in conjunction with Head Strategy and Investor Relations
    • To develop and maintain a company investor relations plan
    • To perform a comprehensive competitive analysis, including financial metrics and differentiation
    • To develop and monitor performance metrics for the investor relations function
    • To provide strategic insights on market activity and guidance on national investor relations affairs which directly influence the organisation and present them to the Head Strategy and Investor Relations, CFO and EXCO
    • To analyse and present financial trends, competitor behaviour, shareholder issues, and anything else that could impact the business
    • To monitor and alert management of threats and opportunities from local and international trends in the legislative, political, social, environmental, industrial perspective that impact on the investor relations strategy

    Investment oversight responsibilities 

    • To prepare for the quarterly Investment Committee including preparation of packs, engaging with Chairperson prior to meeting and ensuring plans are executed and covered in Investment Committee meeting agenda.
    • To attend and be the Santam representative at subsidiary Investment Committee meetings and provide support where required.
    • To review the performance of portfolios as part of the monthly investment reporting process.

    Stakeholder Management

    • To assist business units to effectively consult and engage investors on relevant projects
    • To identify investor issues and act appropriately to address issues
    • To advise senior management regarding investment opportunities and risks as soon as they arise so that it can be managed effectively
    • To champion the organisation’s strategic investment communication in a manner that adds value to the core business of the organisation

    • From a supply chain finance perspective, identify funding opportunities and evaluation of facility options
    • Deliver on investment KYC requirements (SIM and Abax)

    Programme Management of Strategic Priorities

    • To drive the programme management of the Santam strategic priorities of the business with Head Strategy and Investor Relations guidance
    • To ensure appropriate communication of strategic priorities to key internal stakeholders
    • To ensure that relevant actions are in place for strategic priorities
    • To compile reports on progress against priorities                                                                                                                          
    • To manage internal collaboration between internal business units and Strategy team

    Qualifications

    • Postgraduate degree in business, finance, or accounting
    • CA or CFA qualification is advantageous

    Knowledge and Experience

    • 10 years’ experience dealing with investors and a strong track record of creating positive relations with the investor community
    • Deep knowledge and understanding of the company valuations, as well as a thorough understanding of key metrics for companies in the industry
    • A strong understanding of macroeconomics, capital markets trends, competitor activities, industry dynamics, and customer trends
    • JSE listed experience
