    Principal Mechanical Engineering Assistant

    Job Advert Summary

    Rand Water is currently looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineering Assistant at their Head Office in Glenvista, to perform the functional test upon completion of the manufacturing process to prove the equipment has the same specification and functionality that indicated in the datasheet, specification and purchase order.

    Minimum Requirements

    •  Mechanical Engineering or related engineering Qualification
    • SAIW level 1 Welding and Fabrication /Coating qualification an added advantage
    • Project Management added advantage.
    • 5 years’ of work experience of which 3 years is in Valve inspections

    Primary Duties

    • Review and approve the quality control plan (QCP’s) and/ Inspection and test plans (ITP’s)
    • Perform visual and dimensional inspection of valves, and component
    • Interpret or evaluate test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures. Interpret the results of all methods of non-destructive testing (NDT), such as acoustic emission, electromagnetic, leak, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, neutron radiographic, radiographic, thermal or infrared, ultrasonic, vibration analysis, and visual testing.
    • Determines and uses appropriate inspection processes to confirm assigned products and parts meet specifications.
    • Confirms and approves quality of finished parts.
    • Concession management for the product not meeting specifications.
    • Prepares paperwork and reports documenting inspection findings.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    • Prepare inspection reports and maintain files of Inspection documents
    • Review inspection records received for compliance
    • Maintain inspection and measuring equipment records.
    • Prepare and coordinate Non-Conformance Reports (NCR’s) for non-conforming parts.
    • Comply with all Company and SHE Policies and Procedures.
    • Participate in Internal and external audits
    • Perform initial inspection, repaired equipment inspection, final inspection etc.
    • Witness pressure test and gas test and maintain the records.

The incumbent will be responsible for managing multi-projects and multidisciplinary projects through integrated project management approach to enhance inter-dependencies of projects, stakeholder management, manage some multi-disciplinary projects and ensure projects meet their objectives.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Formal engineering qualifications (BTech, BSc / BEng degree)
    • Project Management Qualification/Professional Certification (Diploma, Degree or Project Management Professional-PMP)
    • Professional Registration (or eligibility to be registered) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)

    • Perform database data integrity and basic Database Administration.
