    Governance Risk Specialist

    Job Description

    • This Cape Town base role reporting to the COO of GBSM is responsible for managing and implementing a robust governance value chain including risk management strategy and policy development and roll-out in accordance with OML Audit Risk and Compliance Committee and to support the GBSM team in performing governance and risk-related responsibilities. It involves monitoring, escalating, and reporting material risk events to the GBSM COO, ensuring appropriate governance structures are in effect, with the primary objective of contributing to the overall success and achievement of the stated business objectives.

    Key Result Areas

    The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for :

    • Ensuring compliance with the Old Mutual Ltd Group Governance Framework (GGF).
    • Manage the Line 1 policy review and roll-out to entities including the policy attestation process.
    • Maintain and support the Group waiver and clearance processes for the Group Risk Policies.
    • Ensuring GBSM’s authority limits are adhered, reviewed and in compliance with GGF.
    • Manage the implementation of all aspects of the risk function, including implementation of processes, tools and systems to identify, assess, measure, manage, monitor and report risks.
    • Perform regular assessment of risks and ensuring a risk control library and risk register is maintained.  Ensuring escalation of risk events per the escalation policy.
    • Responsible for mandate management with asset managers which includes maintaining a mandate register.
    • Ensure the business continuity plan is updated and tested with control deficiencies reported.
    • Service Level Agreement management with stakeholders.
    • Provide support to the OML risk policy owners with policy implementation.
    • Ensure all committee structures are appropriate; terms of reference are reviewed and assistance with governance committee packs, and action items.
    • Ensure adherence to all applicable policies and frameworks.
    • Manage the internal audit relationship; regular stakeholder engagement, drive the scope of audits together with internal audit as well as develop IBAM’s and ensure all findings are resolved appropriately and timeously.
    • Facilitate and co-ordinate the integration of the business related risk requirements into the broader governance structures, and ensuring the evidencing of key risk-related decisions.
    • Conduct training and presentations to key stakeholders as may be required
    • Actively identify and mange key processes for Data Controls and Governance (DCG) scope. Ensure that key control are identified, documented and assessed regularly.
    • Assist the COO with Business partner duties for wider GBSM – that includes BSM annual business plan and cost monitoring, driving projects across GBSM, stakeholder engagement with segments within OML and driving GSBM scorecard deliverables.

    Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

    • 4 year degree/honors, internal/audit. CA (SA)/B. Com (Hon)
    • 3 – 5 years’ experience in risk/control environment within the Financial Services Industry is essential.
    • Proactive, self-starter, able to show initiative and work with minimal guidance.
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills: be able to write and present reports to OML ALCO & OML CMC.
    • The ability to work in a team is critical to success in this role.
    • Computer proficiency: advanced Excel, Word and Power Point skills

    Lending Specialist: Investment Backed Lending (Lombard Lending)

    Job Description

    • The lending specialist role is a role that includes the origination function and servicing of existing Investment Backed Loans (IBL). The product is a margin loan that is secured by various investments such as a stock portfolio, cash balances, unit trusts etc.
    • A significant amount of time will be spent on:
    • Monitoring LTVs on existing loans Responding to Portfolio Manager queries Managing the operational flow of new and existing loans

    Role description

    • Significantly contribute to existing book servicing by engaging with front line staff members (Portfolio Managers and Financial Advisors) on matters pertaining to new and existing loans
    • Significantly contribute to LTV monitoring and ensure that appropriate margin call processes are executed as per policy framework

    • Liaise with stakeholders on secured lending matters
    • Assist the credit function with periodic audits
