    HR Manager: Tugela

    As an Human Resources Manager, you will be responsible for: 

    • Drive implementation of the people strategy:
    • Contribute to the development of the regional HR strategy, interpret and create plans for operationalizing at the business unit level.
    • Consult on and compile the business unit-specific HR strategy and implementation plans to address business unit-specific risks and issues.
    • Act as the primary Human Resources contact for the business unit head or general manager as well as local internal and external stakeholders.
    • Manage the quality of the HR service delivery in the business unit by setting specific objectives and driving implementation.
    • Provide day-to-day, medium-term, and long-term advice to employees, line managers, and business unit leadership on how to respond to people issues.
    • Ensure that HR policies, practices, and procedures are understood and implemented. Motivate dispensations to the policy owners if needed. Develop policies that may be required due to unique business unit requirements (such as housing services), in consultation with regional policy owners.
    • Attend to and advise managers on employee relations matters. Responsible for discipline, grievance, dispute resolution (including strike action), and consultations around terms and conditions locally.
    • Drive performance management processes for the business unit. Ensure that goal-setting processes are robust.
    • Compile reports and analyses to inform advice to line managers. Identify trends and inform line managers and unit leadership, advising on remedial action.
    • Drive the company’s transformation objectives for the business unit in relation to employment equity, skills development, and equal opportunities for disabled people.
    • Build relationships with local unions to ensure the prevention of local issues.
    • Develop relationships with local service providers, community forums regulators, and labour brokers.
    • Facilitate quality and timeous recruitment and selection processes in line with company policies. Ensure smooth onboarding of new employees.
    • Manage and consult on all Bargaining Council and CCMA applications against the business unit.
    • Drive business unit workforce planning, skills development, career conversations, performance management, and succession planning and leadership development.
    • Ensure that all requirements for training related to safety regulations and legal licenses are adhered to.
    • Oversee an effective learning and development delivery service for the business unit.
    • Apply remuneration guidelines locally and oversee the business area payroll and master data maintenance processes. Take personal accountability for employee data.
    • Manage the local employee primary and occupational health facility and escalate unresolved clinic issues to the regional office.
    • Identify the need for and support the rollout of employee wellbeing (EWB) initiatives. Drive the agenda and delivery of the local EWB committee.
    • Manage an effective occupational health service in compliance with the OHS Act.
    • For selected business units HR managers are responsible for canteen contracts, employee housing (allocation, maintenance, tenancy and community services) and employee services (such as staff transport)

    What are we looking for?

    • Bachelor Degree in Industrial Psychology, Human Resources or related fields
    • Post-graduate qualification in Business Management or Human Resources would be advantageous
    • 5-7 years’ experience as an HR generalist in a unionised manufacturing
    • Computer literate
    • Understanding of SAP HR would be advantageous

    Production Manager Refibre and Pulp Supply - Ngodwana

    As a Production Manager Refibre and Pulp Supply, you will be responsible for:

    • Maintaining, setting, and keeping GWD stone sharpness according to process and pulp requirements as needed on PM2.
    • Continually seek opportunities for the enhancement of productivity and quality by applying Lean Manufacturing Principles.
    • Plan the plant operations to ensure the optimum utilisation of all resources.
    • Plan and manage shut and maintenance plans within the section.
    • Initiate and implement engineering and maintenance standards and procedures.
    • Compile and ensure business goals are aligned with those of the rest of the Mill.
    • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers within areas of responsibility.
    • Ensure compliance with business processes within the area of responsibility.
    • Investigate timber & waste efficiencies as part of continuous optimisation and cost reduction.
    • Ensure daily stock measurement is up to date and accurate.
    • Conduct physical waste plant stock count every Monday.
    • Accountable for the efficiency of the processes within Waste Plant, Groundwood, Save-all, and Chemical Kitchen and all auxiliary equipment associated with the plant.
    • Manage and rotate the waste bales on the slab.
    • Contract owner for chemical supply contractor.
    • Oversee the day-to-day activities to produce good quality pulp for both PM1 & PM2 respectively. 
    • Responsible for and co-ordinate the effective management of Human Resources within the section. 
    • Perform effective career development, Performance Management, Training, Mentoring, Goal alignment, Industrial relations, HR administration, compliance with legislation directives, distribution of all resources, Productivity, and Diversity.
    • Set goals and appraise immediate subordinates on a bi-annual basis giving more frequent coaching and feedback.
    • Ensure the competency of all subordinates through adequate training, assessments, and coaching.
    • Prepare and control Forecasts, annual capital expenditure, fixed and variable cost budgets.
    • Report monthly on the status thereof.
    • Ensure that the department complies in all respects with the relevant statutory requirements (OHS Act, Environmental Regulations) by implementing the necessary control measures and rectifying inadequacies and non-conformances.
    • Ensure the plant’s conformance to the OHS Act 18000, ISO 9002, ISO 14000, and ISO 15001 systems.

    What are we looking for? 

    • BTech Pulp and Paper or BSc/BEng Chemical Engineering.
    • 8 Years of relevant Production or Manufacturing Experience.
    • 2 years of supervisory experience.
    • Waste plant experience advantageous.

    Community Services Officer

    As a Community Services Officer, you will be responsible for:

    • Assist operational management with stakeholder relations and enable stakeholder relations capacity
    • Develop sound community relations with communities within which Sappi operates, exposing them to the Sappi value chain for better understanding of the forestry business, ABCD thinking and the Stop and Think Before you Act (STBA) culture.
    • Identify and meet community leaders and traditional authorities in communities that border Sappi plantations and ensure ongoing two-way communication on issues of common interest as indicated in the Stakeholder Engagement Strategy.
    • Work with the Abashintshi programme to facilitate and support community development
    • Facilitate Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) philosophy for shared value in all communities (Own and Khulisa) in which Sappi operates
    • Advise communities and implement community development and/or welfare projects
    • Map out community assets
    • Establish Community Social Investment Plans for identified priority communities including proposing roll out plan and budget
    • Engage community self-help enterprsies (co-operatives, garden projects) on sustainable development in Sappi communities, exposing them to the ABCD thinking
    • Co-ordinate activites and ensure sound relations with business partners engaged by Sappi to support development initiatives at any time in response to Sappi's impact and shared value driven CSI strategy as well as ensure continuous monitoring, evaluation and reporting
    • Hold monthly feedback sessions with Abashinshi and quaterly check-in sessions with Abashintshi as well as conduct site visits on their community ABCD initiatives
    • Assist and attend to different structures that exist in Sappi communities including CPF's, Community Forums, Honey Harvester & Cattle Keepers, on issues of risk for the identified key risk factors as detailed in the Stakeholder Engagement Strategy
    • Engage communities on theft of timber and seedlings in conjunction with operations, the security service provider and CPF's
    • Support the Khulisa programme by providing social facilitation expertise to existing and expansion projects
    • Liaise with teams and providing capacity support on social, community and institutional issues as well as perceptions of Sappi as communicated to Foresters
    • Support through training on the establishment and implementation of appropriate conflict resolution mechanisms and protocols
    • Support the establishment and maintenance of required institutional structures for community engagement in community projects where Sappi is a partner
    • Receive, acknowledge and investigate requests for assistance and other support from Sappi communities 
    • Liaise with Communication/Corporate Relations department in terms of communicating departmental activities including projects
    • Support and co-ordinate Sappi regional/area departmental events
    • Prepare weekly and monthly reports of activities, movements and outcomes of engagements
    • Assist the Stakeholder Relations Manager in projects

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma in a related community relations or rural development field
    • A Bachelor’s Degree will be advantageous
    • Min 3 years relevant experience
    • Good rural development and project management focus experience advantageous
    • Driver’s licence (Code EB)

    Forestry Business Analyst - Ngodwana

    As a Forestry Business Analyst, you will be responsible for:

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather, integrate and analyse data related to processes across the forest supply chain.
    • Perform data validation, working closely with data owners to refine and improve data sources.
    • Interpret data findings to provide actionable insights that contribute the development of business improvement strategies.
    • Assist Forestry team members and managers to translate their business needs into technical specifications.
    • Engage in process mapping and contribute to the development of process documentation that serves as a foundation for improvement initiatives.
    • Participate in the development and trial of new enabling forestry technologies.
    • Support the development of business cases, providing data and analysis.

    • Prepare reports on the performance and effectiveness of implemented process changes.

    What are we looking for?

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry Science, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
    • More than 2 years proven experience in business analysis, data analytics, and process improvement, preferably within the forestry industry.
    • Strong analytical skills with experience in using database and data visualisation tools and techniques to provide actionable insights and conclusions.
    • Proficient in common Excel functions and in data processing, including some experience in analysing large datasets using Excel, SQL and Python or R.
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills - and the ability to operate in a highly cross-functional environment.
    • Desirable, but not a prerequisite: Experience in the application of current and new enabling technologies and tools relevant to forest operations (e.g. simulation software, GIS, forestry management systems, data intelligence software, sensing technologies, scheduling systems & machine learning).
    • Valid Code B (or Code 08) driver’s license
