    Senior Electrical Technician

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Senior Electrical Technician to provide expert high-level technical support to the Electrical and related departments, specifically relating to plant optimization, plant automation, electrical reticulation, and fault diagnosis to maximize the plant's availability.

    As a Senior Electrical Technician, you will be responsible for:

    • Administer and ensure compliance with accepted standards
    • Responsible for the maintenance of all PLC and SCADA Installations and Profibus Networks.  Perform system backups. Implementation and commissioning of electrical and PLC system-related projects
    • Ensures that all modifications/projects conform fully to Mill Change Management Procedures, Mill Standard Specifications, Mill Safety Standards, and the OHS Act
    • Optimisation of plant performance and control characteristics to maintain high plant availability.
    • Reviews equipment in line with technological advancement within the industry on an ongoing basis
    • Explore quality products at reduced costs in the event of replacement
    • Fault-finding malfunctions of field devices and system components with the aid of electrical drawings and test equipment
    • Proficiency in specialist areas such as BQS, BCU, PLCs, VFD’s, HV and LV reticulation and Protection Equipment, Power Generator, and Auxiliary Equipment.
    • Provides on-going training to personnel to perform specific tasks on new equipment, completed projects, and maintenance of equipment. Operator training (limitations due to system interlocks/sequences explained).
    • Manages varied multi-disciplinary plant modifications/project work from concept to commissioning and closeout

        What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma or B Tech in Electrical Engineering
    • 5 years of industrial experience in PLC / Profibus knowledge and experience in heavy industrial electrical equipment and systems
    • Project Management Experience
    • Supervisory experience

    Maintenance Support Mechanical (Foreman) - Newsprint (Paper)

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Maintenance Support Mechanical (Foreman) - Newsprint (Paper) to supervise assigned skilled tradespeople and coordinate the safe performance of maintenance tasks and related activities contributing to the overall equipment effectiveness.

    As a Maintenance Support Mechanical (Foreman) -  Newsprint (Paper), you will be responsible for: 

    • Assess equipment, materials and labour needed to complete large and/or complex maintenance tasks for the purpose of ensuring that maintenance activities meet district standards and resolve the defined issue(s) while reducing wasted resources.
    • Collaborate with others (e.g., contractors, vendors, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
    • Coordinate services and activities of outside contractors as assigned for the purpose of ensuring that contracted work is completed in a safe, effective and timely manner that it meets Mill’s standards and objectives.
    • Directly assigned maintenance staff in resolving maintenance issues for the purpose of ensuring that Mill sections are maintained in a safe and effective working/learning environment.
    • Maintain a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records for the purpose of providing up-to-date references and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
    • Maintain assigned tools, equipment, and vehicle(s) for the purpose of ensuring their availability as needed to meet assigned maintenance objectives.
    • Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance activities for the purpose of ensuring that maintenance issues are resolved, and projects are completed in a safe, effective and timely manner.
    • Prepare a variety of program-mandated documents and reports for the purpose of documenting activities and complying with Mill and/or legal requirements.
    • Prioritise and assign system-related work orders to skilled maintenance staff for the purpose of ensuring that section is maintained in a safe working/learning environment and meeting guidelines within the approved budget.
    • Required to work standby and overtime as required.
    • Integrating and align with lean manufacturing.
    •  Drive SAP to ensure proper maintenance standards, asset utilisation, planning forecast and maintenance execution.
    •  Passion to drive and excel performance on the machine.
    •  Manage and assist in RCAs to implementation and improve on Predictive maintenance. 

    What are we looking for?

    • Post Matric Certificate / Diploma / NQF level 5 - 6
    • Recognised Trade Certificate (Manpower/Seta accredited)
    •  3 - 5 years’ plant operations experience
    • Computer Literate (MS Office Package)
    • Valid driving license
    • Pulp and Paper industry experience advantageous
    • SAP knowledge advantageous

    Artisan Aide: Vibration

    We’re on the lookout for an Artisan Aide: Vibration to pre-empt machine failures and liaise with condition monitoring technicians, section foreman and engineers to maintain plant performance standards to maximum availability.

    As an Artisan Aide: Vibration, you will be responsible for:

    • Data capturing from rotating plant equipment and download captured data from analyser to computer on a daily basis
    • Checking for base cracks, loose bolts, overheating etc; take notes on high vibration readings and immediately reporting to Condition Monitoring Technician, Foreman or plant Engineer
    • Ensuring captured data is of quality, if not so delete and recapture
    • Reporting any serious abnormalities directly to section Foreman and condition monitoring Technician
    • Attending daily discussions with the condition monitoring technician on work progress and which problem areas are to receive attention
    • Closing off SAP schedules when route is completed
    • Taking out work permit before commencement of daily duties
    • Providing shop floor analysis of vibration readings
    • Assisting condition monitoring technicians in gathering information pertaining to equipment’s details
    • Reporting unsafe conditions and actions to appropriate management level.

    What are we looking for?

    • Grade 12 plus N2 Engineering Studies (4 Full Subjects) or NCV Level 3
    • 1- 2 years experience in a heavy Engineering environment
    • SAP experience and Data Analysis would be an advantage
    • The ability to work under pressure while following all procedures and standards

    Boiler Attendant

    We’re on the lookout for a Boiler Attendant to operate the Boiler house and ensures mill wide supply of steam which must conform to the required standard so that optimum production rate is maintained on a continuous basis.

    As a Boiler Attendant, you will be responsible for:

    • Inspecting log sheets and logbook and checks total boiler house for defects or abnormalities on shift change over.
    • Checking each boiler drum level, length and burnout of fires, adequate supply of coal in hoppers, quantity on fine ash hopper and ash chutes for blockages.
    • Maintaining feedwater tank level and monitors quality of feedwater.
    • Checking standby equipment to ensure it is in working order.
    • Liaising with all sections in the mill that uses steam and check for steam demand and variations.
    • Monitoring condensate returns to boilers on DCS system.
    • Receiving quality data on coal, boiler water and feed water from boiler operator and makes operational changes according to results.
    • Assisting mechanical department where required during breakdowns and operates the hoist to hoist up spares, wood and chemicals.
    • Checking equipment according to safety protocols - i.e.  blow-down, soot-blowing and gauge glass level control interlocks.
    • Monitoring boiler drum pressure on DCS to ensures that boiler drum pressures do not exceed the authorised working pressure.

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric plus full N3 Pulp & Paper (Full 4 Subjects) or N4 equivalent.
    • Boiler Module 1 & 2 competency certificates.   
    • 1– 2 years working experience as a Boiler Operator.
    • Must be signed off competent as a Boiler Operator.
    • Ability to work under pressure.
    • Excellent troubleshooting abilities.

    Production Manager : Woodyard

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Production Manager to manage the plant according to budget, quality, safety, and environmental performance in order to maximize production.

    As a Production Manager, you will be responsible for:

    • Ensure that the availability and efficiency of the plant is always as high as possible by arranging with his staff and engineering personnel whenever necessary, for the stoppage of equipment that needs to be repaired, replaced, maintained, or cleaned
    • Reinforce existing process standards by monitoring the plant reports and logbooks daily, taking corrective action when a deviation from normal is noticed, and setting new standards when product specifications change or plant and equipment changes
    • Brief personnel on a regular basis about sectional, departmental, and company information as regards change to the structure, organisation, manpower, health and safety, quality, and environmental issues
    • Ensure that the budgeted production targets are met and that the correct quality objectives are met safely
    • Propose and justify modifications to the plant and monitor the installation in liaison with divisional engineers in accordance with the change management procedures
    • Produce weekly and monthly production reports. Explain over/under budget, production, and raw material usage, and explain reasons for plant downtime
    • Maintain work discipline in the section by taking the necessary action timeously and applying the Sappi disciplinary code consistently and fairly
    • Liaise with equipment vendors, suppliers of raw materials, and the mill’s Commercial and Purchasing departments to ensure an adequate supply of equipment and raw materials and that the quality of these meets specifications
    • Ensure that the health and safety standards applicable to the section are complied with by issuing directives to subordinates and obtaining services from supporting departments such as engineering, instrumentation, and electrical on a daily basis
    • Supervise any major shutdown or start-up to ensure the most effective passage of the event by giving instructions on the process

        What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma in an Engineering discipline or Pulp and Paper Processing while B Tech, BSc, or BEng in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering would be preferred
    • At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing  environment

    Social Media Manager (South Africa)

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Social Media Manager to lead the implementation of Sappi’s Global Social Media and Digital channels strategies to help grow and build Sappi’s reputation with key external stakeholders through online platforms.

    This role will report into the Senior Manager: Group Corporate Communication

    As a Social Media Manager, you will be responsible for:  

    • The contribution to the development of the communication strategy and action plans as well as ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
    • Provide guidance to and coordinate with the regional communication teams.
    • Help build the communication competence of the Group.
    • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on all social media communication-related aspects.
    • Develop and implement an internal social media advocacy programme with staff globally.
    • Develop and implement Social Media Executive Profiling Programme.
    • Manage and align the global social media presence for the Sappi Group including developing and implementing the group corporate social media programme.
    • Coordinate and align global social media teams (or those responsible for social media).
    • Ensure that all regions adhere to the social media policy, community management and posting guidelines, and monitor and provide regular feedback on suggested improvements.
    • Manage all agencies providing strategic, campaign or creative services for the portfolio.
    • Create content plans, engage content and ensure delivery of planned content as per the content calendar.
    • Ensure accurate budget forecasting and that all activities are managed within budget.
    • Ensure all policies, guidelines and supporting material (Playbooks etc) remain up to date.
    • Grow social media channel following, engagement and online presence.
    • Support internal social media upskilling processes, including providing input into social media training.  
    • Implement and update the Group Sappi Social Media Strategy, policy, guidelines, and governance procedures.
    • Maintain social media management tools and systems.
    • Support the development of regional strategies to ensure alignment with global strategy.
    • Drive collaboration and engagement of global social media teams and manage collaboration tools and calendars.  
    • Own the maintenance of Global Corporate Channels and support the development and creation of new channels.
    • Coordinate social media issue management and crisis response with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Coordinate third-party recommendations on content/campaign approach.
    • Manage all community engagement for global channels.            
    • Liaise with global communication teams and assist to create content for Employee Communication Applications
    • Work closely with the Website Manager and global communication and sustainability teams on content sharing and development of integration strategies between website and social media platforms

    What are we looking for? 

    • Formal qualification in Social Media Management, Communications or Digital Marketing with at least up to 5 years of experience in a corporate environment.
    • Excellent understanding of and experience in electronic/digital media and social media channels.
    • Excellent understanding of and experience in social media management tools (listening, engaging, scheduling and reporting) such as Hootsuite/Brandwatch/Sprout Social/Sprinklr 
    • Proficient in MS office, MS Teams and Sharepoint.
    • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro) would be advantageous.
    • Experience in a multinational and/or B2B environment as well as a manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
