    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/ Professor in the Department of Zoology & Entomology

    Main Objectives:

    • All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.
    • Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level, and make some contribution to their profession.
    • In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, and community engagement, as well as to contribute towards the governance of the institution.
    • This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty and institutional levels

    The requirements:

    Senior Lecturer:

    • At least a PhD in an entomological topic.
    • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and post graduate levels required.
    • Experience in teaching some topics related to: general entomology, ecophysiology, insect diversity, insect form and function, apiculture, forensic entomology, parasitology, medical veterinary entomology, conservation, and pest management.
    • Experience in research in general or applied entomological topics, excluding biocontrol, agricultural entomology, and paleontology.
    • Research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees required.
    • Emerging national profile in discipline.
    • Track record of research publication.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

    Associate Professor:

    • At least a PhD in an entomological topic.
    • Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and post graduate levels
    • Experience in teaching some topics related to: general entomology, ecophysiology, insect diversity, insect form and function, apiculture, forensic entomology, parasitology, medical veterinary entomology, conservation, and pest management.
    • Experience in research in general or applied entomological topics, excluding biocontrol, agricultural entomology, and paleontology.
    • Research supervision of Masters and preferably PhD degrees.
    • National and emerging international profile in discipline.
    • Track record of research publication.
    • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

    Professor:

    • At least a PhD in an entomological topic.
    • Extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and post graduate levels.

    Re-advertising Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in the Department of Psychology (Counselling Psychology)

    Requirements:

    Lecturer;

    • At least a Masters’ degree in Counselling Psychology, with commitment to register and nearing completion of PhD within probationary period. 
    • In addition, registration with the HPCSA as a Counselling psychologist is required.
    • Three years of practice experience registered as a Counselling Psychologist with the HPCSA, and case supervision experience is advantageous.
    • Some teaching experience is required. Should be acquainted with online/ blended teaching, testing and marking or be willing to immediately acquire these skills once on the job through workshop attendance or other developmental opportunities.
    • Ability to teach and interest in any of the following areas is required:
    • psychological assessment, particularly cognitive assessments,
    • psycho-analytic psychotherapies,
    • child psychotherapies,
    • career assessment and counselling,
    • group therapy processes.
    • Multilingualism in teaching and case supervision is a distinct advantage.
    • Ability to supervise postgraduate students as research supervision at Hons, Masters and PhD level as per qualification will be required once in the job.
    • Some evidence and experience of conducting research.

     Senior Lecturer:

    • A PhD in Psychology. Candidates who have submitted their PhD for examination and pending results may be considered, provided convincing evidence is submitted. In addition, registration with the HPCSA as a Counselling psychologist required.
    • Three years of practice experience registered as a Counselling Psychologist with the HPCSA, and case supervision experience is advantageous.
    • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required.
    • Teaching experience and interest in any of the following areas is required:

    Technology Transfer Manager (Grade 15) in the office of the DVC: Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership

    • The Manager: Technology Transfer (TT) is responsible for the management and commercialisation of the University’s Intellectual Property (IP).  
    • The Manager: TT oversees the IP protection strategy for innovations as well all IP registration activity such as patent registrations.  
    • The Technology Transfer Manager will oversee the protection of innovations through disclosure, material transfer agreements, non-disclosure agreements, technology development and collaboration agreements, joint venture agreements and licensing agreements.  
    • Responsibilities also include defining, obtaining required approval for, and implementing commercialisation strategies, including negotiating licence deals and creating spinouts.  
    • The Manager: TT will work with the DVC: RI&SP and TT Steering Committee to entrench and strengthen the activities of Technology Transfer.

    The requirements:

    A B. Degree, (Masters is preferable) in Science or Engineering and/or a Business-oriented qualification, plus 3 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Technology transfer and Commercialisation of innovations.
    • Evaluation of innovation and IP management.
    • Data-base creation, and data management.
    • Financial management (to include budgets, tracking and costing and reporting).
    • Project-management experience.

    Professor/Associate Professor

    Requirements:

    For appointment as a Professor or Associate Professor, a PhD in law, with at least 10 years’ experience as an academic and/or researcher, and a successful track record in the following areas: 

    • Own research, preferably having led initiatives at the departmental/Faculty level to improve research within the department/Faculty
    • Supervision of post-graduates, up to PhD level, with a keen understanding of the role of supervisor
    • Teaching at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels, preferably having led initiatives at the departmental/Faculty level to review, improve curriculum and assessment in the department/faculty
    • Leadership and management roles at the departmental or faculty level having led initiatives at the departmental/Faculty level to review current functioning or explore new processes or taken responsibility for large projects.
