    Maintenance Planner - Pretoria

    About the job:

    The CSIR has a temporary vacancy for a Maintenance Planner in the Facilities Management and Security Services(FM&SS)Portfolio. The incumbent is responsible to plan maintenance and technical services work through job scoping, resource allocation, procurement of materials and services and ensure implementation of works timeously.To use the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), asset register and maintenance tasks to ensure all equipment is maintained to requirements. To monitor and generate reports on maintenance performance for presentation during planning and scheduling meetings with maintenance supervisors and Management. The position is based in Pretoria.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Implementation of maintenance strategies and developing maintenance procedures
    • Utilize latest Maintenance Management tools to ensure effective maintenance of all assets.
    • Proactively manage communication and relationships with all customers. Act as liaison between customers and FM&SS staff on FM&SS related issues
    • Apply the latest maintenance safety technologies to ensure best-in-class maintenance safety performance and statutory compliance.
    • Develop detailed work packages from preventive maintenance routine (PMR) findings and corrective maintenance activities for all maintenance teams.
    • Analyse and screen corrective maintenance (CM) job cards and burning maintenance issues for opportunities to perform root cause failure analysis to prevent future failures. Coordinate root cause analysis.
    • Attend to procedural and equipment issues that arise and require engineering evaluation and direction to improve specific maintenance procedures.
    • Analyse spare parts inventory requirements and continuously improve inventory control.
    • Compiling of weekly reports for presentation and discussion at planning and scheduling meetings to assist supervisors with backlog management.
    • Implement FM&SS’s procurement requirements for spares, materials, and outsourced work.
    • Update maintenance tasks per asset to capture any changes and improvements and ensure job cards from the CMMS always have current information.

    Qualifications, skills and experience:

    • National Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering with at least three years Maintenance Planning experience.
    • Supervision of skilled maintenance trades,
    • Good organizational skills,
    • Experience in analysing trends in performance parameters, 
    • Computer literacy, and
    • Knowledge and experience in use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) will be advantageous.

    Senior Researcher/Engineer: Energy Systems (Energy Modelling)

    About the job:

    The CSIR has a vacancy for two Senior Researchers/Engineers in the Energy Centre within the Smart Places cluster. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the translation of CSIR energy-related research into direct and tangible recommendations for South African policymakers at Government, Provincial and Municipal levels on how to achieve an optimal energy supply mix and configuration to ensure stable and sustainable supply and the growth of South African industry.  

    Key responsibilities:

    • Manage projects, research and conduct investigations on energy modelling and related topics.
    • Provide leadership in formulating research questions and developing study assumptions.
    • Provide research direction to the Energy Centre on energy planning and energy modelling
    • Participate in local panels or working groups on power systems topics.
    • Work with a team of researchers/engineers in your own field and across other disciplines
    • Generate technical reports, articles, conference papers and presentations aimed at energy modelling locally and internationally.
    • Provide training on energy planning related topics to CSIR employees and externally.
    • Formulate research proposals to attract contract research income from public and private clients
    • Develop relationships with potential, collaborators and stakeholders for R&D in power systems topics
    • Compile technical reports for clients in the energy sector;
    • Manage contract research and development and ensure adherence to schedule and budget;

    Qualifications, skills and experience:

    • An Masters degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial engineering, mathematics, science or equivalent with at least six years’ working experience in the energy sector, of which three years’ should be in the energy modelling domain.
    • Proficiency in suitable energy modelling software tools applied in the energy sector.  These could include inter alia energy systems modelling using PLEXOS, OSEMOSYS, TIMES or others;
    • Experience in the energy sector modelling;
    • Strong network in the public and private sector as links to sustainable energy supply, with a track record of working with clients and obtaining contract R&D in the field.
    • Familiarity with modelling approaches for energy planning and modelling.
    • Experience in scenario definitions/planning.
    • Familiarity with the South African and Southern African power system would be advantageous
