    Wembley College: Equestrian Centre Manager - Greytown

    Description

    • Wembley College is a leading, English Medium, co-educational, independent school situated on a beautiful campus amongst the rolling hills of Greytown in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. An hour from Pietermaritzburg and an hour from Ballito makes for an ideal ‘country school’ within easy striking distance of a Central Business District and the warm KwaZulu Natal coast. Founded in 1997, the school enters candidates for the Cambridge Examinations that are set externally and recognised worldwide.

    Management of Equestrian Centre

    •   To have and remain up to date with knowledge and understanding of horse welfare, training, stability and pasture management.
    •   To give inputs and guidance in the continuous improvement and development of the Equestrian Centre as a major draw card to Wembley College
    •   Investigate and propose income-earning activities for the Equestrian Centre.
    •   Maintain contractual agreements for boarding, use of facilities and leasing of horses.
    •   Responsible for the scheduling of riding in line with available or own horses/ponies.
    •   Where school ponies are used, ensure the balanced utilisation of these animals.
    •   Regular communication with parents, staff, school management and owners of horses about riding and stabling.
    •   Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety and other legislative requirements.
    •   Effective management of Centre staff and intern programmes.
    •   Implement the SANIP QUALIFICATIONS CURRICULUM.

    Financial Management

    •   Develop, prepare and maintain budget for the Equestrian Centre.
    •   Submit annual budget for approval.
    •   Manage the Centre budget in collaboration with Plennegy Finance/Bursar??   
    •   Ensure that the Equestrian Centre can operate as a financial independent entity and a source of scholars to Wembley College.       

    Facilities and Stable Management including outside livery.

    •   Ensures that Wembley Equestrian Centre provides a professional livery service to customers.
    •   Ensure that all stables and arenas are kept clean, maintained, and safe at all times.
    •   Ensure daily feeding and stable cleaning as per requirements and SOP’s.
    •   Timeous ordering of supplies such as pellets, hay etc.
    •   Ensure the correct disposal of waste and compost.
    •   Continuous communication with Vet, farrier, and dentist.
    •   Daily observation, evaluation and management of equine health and behavioural concerns.
    •   Cover priority tasks when relevant staff members are absent.
    •   Resource management during school holidays.
    •   Maintenance of equipment – organise the repair of broken equipment and report any maintenance jobs to the Estate Manager.

    Pasture Management

    •   Ensure the maintenance of riding arenas and cross-country.
    •   Ensure the maintenance of fences, waterpoints and waterlogging and ensure that problems are fixed immediately.
    •   Manage pastures according to seasonal needs of horses and control of parasites.
    •   Rotate horses and ponies according to grazing and socialising needs.
    •   Ensure the clean-up of pastures and weed control where required.
    •   Liaise with Pidelta for the establishment of Eragrostis for baling and fertilising of pastures as required.

    Riding and Instructions 

    •   Build and maintain good relationships with pupils, parents, staff, coaches, other schools, and regulatory bodies such as SANESA.
    •   Provision of enthusiastic instruction and supervision of pupil’s lessons and outrides with a commitment to safety. Underway 
    •   Supervise and advise on the turnout of ponies/horses for shows.
    •   Supervise of pupil’s preparation and caring of ponies and horses.
    •   Motivate and support the progression of riders to achieve their full potential.
    •   Liaise with other coaches where applicable, to ensure participation in competitions.
    •   Monitor, record and report on pupils’ and ponies progress to parents.
    •   Arrange for transportation of ponies by transport providers or horsebox.
    •   Give guidance on Policy for Colours for Equestrian Sports at Wembley College.

    Events and Competitions

    •   Promote the participation of Riders in SANESA and other competition.
    •   Oversee the entering of teams for local and National riding competitions as appropriate.
    •   Ensure that Wembley Equestrian Centre hosts events and competitions including National events at our facilities.
    •   Continually develop our facilities to increase the types of events that can be hosted.
    •   Escort pupils when required to events.

    Marketing and Promotion

    •   Define a marketing strategy with Wembley Marketing to promote the Wembley Equestrian Centre as an integrated benefit of attending Wembley            College.
    •   Liaise with marketing to maximise advertising exposure at events and competitions.
    •   Ensure participation in SANESA events.
    •   Review and propose the Equestrian Centre and Rider Uniforms
    •   Utilise every touchpoint with guests and customers as a marketing opportunity by giving information about the equestrian centre including tours             as and when needed.
    •   Initiate activities to promote all our equestrian programmes including lessons and trail rides as well as offsite events.

    Requirements
    REQUIREMENTS:

    Qualifications :

    • Min: Equestrian-Related Experience
    • Ideal: B.Tech Equine Science.

    Training:

    • Equestrian Related Training Courses (SANIP Level 5)
    • Emergency Care Education: First Aid Level Two (Essential)
    • SAEF Instructors Qualification Level 3 

    Skills:

    • Communication Skills
    • Problem-Solving Skills
    • Microsoft Office 365
    • Decision-Making Skills

    Experience:

    • Equestrian Coach – 3 years Coach – 3 years 
    • Equestrian Centre Manager – 2 yrs 
    • Assistant - Equestrian Centre Manager 5yrs 
    • Driver's License -Code 8 and Heavy Duty
