Specialist Engineering Artisan at City of Cape Town

Requirements

•  Completed Trade Test for Artisans or Telecoms PAX/PABX
•  Relevant 5 years’ Telecommunication experience - Post Apprenticeship
•  Specialist knowledge of PABX/PAX telephone systems, copper/fibre cables and hi-site/microwave infrastructure
•  Code B or EB driver’s licence
•  Ability to operate sophisticated test and splicing equipment
•  High degree of accuracy w.r.t. operation of splicing/jointing equipment
•  A working knowledge of the safety regulations as well as light engineering
•  Required to work in all weather conditions and ability to work at heights.
•  Required to work outside normal working hours during emergencies and planned overtime.
•  Required to be on standby.
•  Must be prepared to enter confined areas and working at heights

Key Performance Areas

•  Experienced ability to operate sophisticated test and splicing equipment, High degree of accuracy w.r.t. operation of splicing/jointing equipment, working knowledge of the safety regulations as well as light engineering, Telephone principals.
•  Interprets and coordinates specific pre-work/site requirements with regards to installation, repairs and planned and predictive maintenance sequences and guides the activities of personnel.
•  Completes internal transactional documentation (e.g. time sheets, log sheet, progress and productivity field report, etc.) and related forms (vehicle checklist).
