Job Description

• The UJ Faculty of Art Design and Architecture (FADA) seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Multimedia.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be expected to be able to fulfil the responsibilities of a Senior Lecturer, which include the following:

• Facilitating learning (teaching, assessment and the preparing of study material) in relevant undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Digital Media Design.
• Executing administrative and/or management duties that support the academic project.
• Improving and increasing personal knowledge through the conducting and publishing of accredited research and/or creative outputs relevant to the discipline on an ongoing basis.
• Contributing towards societal and professional community engagement that adds value to the profile of the individual, department and faculty.
• Participating in departmental and faculty marketing initiatives.
• Supervision of postgraduate students.
• Any other departmental or faculty related duties as required.

Minimum requirements

• A doctoral qualification (NQF 10) in Digital Design, or in a relevant field of design or informatics.
• Three to five years' relevant teaching or lecturing experience.
• Minimum of three years' relevant research experience.
• Evidence of research and/or creative outputs.
• Evidence of at least three years’ industry experience.
• In-depth and current industry skills and knowledge in the relevant field.
• Specialist skills or developed interests in the majority of the following: interaction design, user-experience design, service design, extended realities design, and design research.

• High level of computer literacy particularly regarding discipline-relevant design software.
• Competency in facilitating design and technical execution across a broad spectrum of digital design projects.

• Strong interpersonal communication skills with students and colleagues.

Recommendations:

• Evidence of postgraduate supervision, especially at Master’s and preferably at doctoral level.
• Skills in other aspects of the Multimedia programme will be considered an advantage.
• An NRF rating or the ability to obtain one in three years will be considered an advantage.
