    Methods Engineer - Kempton Park

    Primary Objectives:

    • Represent Methods functions on site, drive the transformation initiatives of any design related projects or coverage at WSA and FIPSA, Customer issues or supplier related issues to methods / design and functioning of Wabtec components & supplied items.
    •  Act as representative to both internal, customer and suppliers.  Regular engagement with Wabtec sister companies, supplies and team members to address and resolve Methods / process issues.
    • Attend local leadership team meetings and spin-off meetings as the Methods representative, support with documentation and PPT with data and reports to conclude status of Methods engineering projects.
    • Work closely with Engineering & Quality teams, Production staff to resolve processes, assembly and testing issues. Regularly collect feedback from the customer, staff on-site (service team), suppliers and inhouse team to consolidate the information to revert back to the global engineering team or business team and the supplier or customer.
    • Be present on site and formally communicate with staff to identify latest Methods or training updates that will need to be addressed with Customer.
    • Lead and manage the skills training plan/ matrix on product lines and components, update training register, control of training data.
    • Identify Skills development plans for employees.
    • Develop training manuals or process assembly manuals.
    • Actively develop new and improved ways to assist in the assembly, testing process in line of all safety standards.
    • Act as go-to-person for all site production Method issues and concerns
    • Act as figurehead and role model for Methods related reporting. Report the cost of operating engineering to management (incl. budget, overhead need, etc.)
    • Act as interface for site-related Methods issues, audits, quality plan, Supplier quality engineering approvals, etc.
    • Establish clear view on site-specific Methods transformation plans and report on progress and critical risks
    • He/ She can directly lead some specific domains like the local laboratory, localization plan or assessments, supplier visits as required.
    • Support a team locally at FIPSA & WSA (OEM, Services and CS) to identify and raise Methods concerns raised by the customer, supplier or in-house production teams.
    • Directly responsible for all Methods processes, certification of Production start-up / NPI processes, engineering tooling, organizational- and people development.
    • Responsible for delivery of design- and continuous improvement projects.
    • Co-ordinate with sister companies / teams across the globe to find solutions to issues the business faces.
    • Wing to wing ownership and tracking of Methods projects that requires resolution.
    • Develop templates/ action trackers, PPTs and spreadsheets to track reports and stages to identify and resolve issues/ status of engineering issues.
    • Work directly with the customer and Production team to gather information on the prescribed issue and map out a work stream to find a closure for the open issues.
    • Develop FISH Bone or problem statement analyses to clearly define the problem to the business and work with Engineering teams to find a solution and report weekly or as required to the broader audience.
    • Weekly and monthly reporting to the local and global management teams or the customer as required on Methods/ process projects or issues raised tied to solution based/ driven.

    Formal Education/Training/ work experience 

    • BTech in Engineering.
    • 5 – 7 years related experience in an Methods/ engineering role.
    • Railway manufacturing experience (advantage but not preferred)

     Essential work skills

    • A team player with flexible approach and a willingness to learn
    • A self-starter who is proactive and can set and achieve goals.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to lead/ direct employees, customer training.
    • Hard working with a proven track record of skilled, hands on trade related experience required.
    • Design or development on pressure vessels, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Brake components, Compressors, fabricated, welded, machined components.- advantageous
    • Ability to solve practical problems and engage with cross functional teams
    • Work independently at times.
    • Adherence to company policies and procedures including Quality Assurance and safety
    • Computer literacy (MS Office)
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Sound verbal and written communication skills 
    • Develop tracking sheets, presentations, score cards, reports to analysis the engineering budget tied to the yearly planning score card.  
    • High standard of numeracy, accuracy with attention to detail
    • Have a valid driver’s license (5+ years) and willing to drive to customer, suppliers or collections / drop off equipment related to engineering / production parts.
    • Willingness to support production/ operational requirements as required.
