    Manager: Shift Production

    Job Description    

    To manage 3 Production Plants within the operations to achieve operational objectives of the budgeted quantities, qualities, and cost effectiveness in a safer manner. Responsible to manufacture bread to the right specifications and quality – on time and in full, also ensuring a high-performance culture, driving the Premier Way.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Ensure optimal production efficiencies and effectiveness by overseeing one of the production teams and processes in line with the agreed Premier standard operating procedures, as well as cost and quality requirements.
    • To ensure baking process delivers consistent high-quality products within specifications in collaboration with the manufacturing team by:
    • Ensuring adherence to the baking process parameters
    • Identifying exceptions and variations in process and to correct the process.
    • Identifying exceptions and variations in equipment and report these to the Manufacturing team to correct.
    • Support / Lead route cause analysis when needed to address and correct.
    • Follow up and check that the problem has been addressed and that the baking process is back within parameters.
    • Driving a quality mindset within production in collaboration with the quality control department in dealing with the non-conforming products or customer complaints as well as collaborating on ways to improve quality.
    • Driving continuous improvement of production processes based on the feedback from quality and the production team and doing internal and external benchmarking from time to time.
    • Ensure cost effective raw materials management, usage and controls.
    • Building and motivating capability through competency- based selection.
    • Training and development, coaching, mentoring, performance management.
    • Effective communication would be essential.
    • Leading and participating in Invocoms and meetings as needed.
    • Ensuring good discipline and accountability.
    • Ensure high performance culture and teamwork in the Production and Maintenance teams on all 3 plants.
    • Establishing good working relationships with Union Representatives.
    • Ensuring a conducive and safe working environment in line with the Premier Values.
    • Ensure full statutory compliance to all Health and Safety and Food Safety requirements in line with the Premier Standards and SOP’s by ensuring training of relevant persons, audits and corrective action of all findings in collaboration with the risk teams.

    Qualification Requirements    

    • Grade 12 with numerical ability and PC Literacy - Essential
    • Chamber of Baking certificate – Essential
    • Equivalent OR similar related qualification would be considered.

    Experience Requirements    

    • FMCG Plant Bakery Production Management experience (plant size minimum of 5000 loaves per hour) - 3-5 Years – Essential

    Other Requirements

    • Pressurized environment.
    • Must be able to work shifts.
    • Required to work Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.
    • Overtime expected from time to time.

    Key Outputs    

    • Bakery process quality requirements and standards.
    • Management and leadership principles and practices including IR Related matters.
    • Function of raw materials and quality, especially flour.
    • FSSC22000 Food Safety, Occupational Health and Safety.
    • Deciding and initiating action, planning and organising within a pressurised environment.
    • Working with people, presenting and communicating information as well as networking.
    • Adhere to principles and values.
    • Analysing, relating interpretation and presenting of analysis.
    • Coping with pressures and setbacks.
