    K9 Program Coordinator / Instructor

    Requirements

    •  NQF 4 (Matric)
    •  Computer literacy
    •  A valid Code B driver’s licence
    •  Minimum three (3) years’ relevant experience working with canines in a policing/law enforcement environment. Proven ability in training canines and their handlers
    •  Extensive knowledge and experience of canine training and canine command training.
    •  Sound knowledge of canine behaviour and ability to identify and address animal behavioural problems
    •  Must be able to handle canines, be mentally compatible to work with animals and have no fear of canines
    •  Must be able to sustain operational service requirements and standards to minimise veterinary costs.
    •  Must be able to address first aid needs of the canines.

    Key Performance Areas

    •  Coordinate and develop specialised training and commands for the different service dogs within Safety and Security
    •  Conduct summative performance assessments of trained police dogs and their handlers
    •  Assist with development of suitable training programmes/interventions for service dogs and handlers
    •  Coordinate training to service dogs and handlers regarding attending scenes where serious crimes have been committed
    •  Provide effective and appropriate management and caring of K9 animals.
    •  Conduct appraisals to measure performance against agreed objectives, counselling and consulting with personnel developmental goals, career paths and short-term targets and standards within the Section
    •  Ensure good working relations between the City and its external Safety and Security service providers
    •  Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
    •  Manage training and skills development and the transfer of skills and knowledge
