Job Description

• Responsible for the merchandising of physical grains and oilseeds and trading related derivative instruments, through acquiring, sales, logistics, derivative trading and hedging, market analysis, customer relationships, risk management and position management.  Furthermore, ensures profitability of the department through all actions and enduring growth in market share.

Requirements

• Advanced Diploma / BTech Degree / Bachelor's Degree
• Experience in a similar role: > 1-2 years
• Experience in the agricultural industry: > 3 year
• Commodity hedging experience
• Forex trading experience
• Registered Persons Examination to trade Agricultural derivatives on the JSE or to be completed within probation period.
• Code 8 Drivers license
• Clean Criminal record

Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor the market conditions analysing but not limited to a multitude of factors that may affect price movement, including weather conditions, currency, financial markets, international markets, trade policies, political developments or changes to supply and demand conditions to serve as a subject matter expert to clients, and make educated trades.
• Interpreting of market reports.
• Inform other traders, managers, or customers of market conditions, including volume, price, competition, or dynamics.
• Buy and sell grains and oilseeds.
• Make bids or offers to buy or sell and agree on buying or selling prices at optimal levels for clients while optimizing for profitability.
• Devise trading strategies.
• Identify opportunities or develop channels for purchase or sale of commodities.
• Negotiating price, specification, payment and delivery details.
• Manage Position and grain book execution
• Spread book to optimally minimise the cost of carry.
• Ensure position reports are correct and in place.
• Continuously monitor the difference between SAFEX calendar months.
• Buy and sell spreads to ensure optimal profitability of grain books.
• Balance the physical position with the derivative position.
• Manage Contract Execution and logistics
• Ensure that contract execution and administration is done according to procedure and contract terms.
• Trading of Derivatives
• Buy and sell, futures, spreads, splits and options
• Execute trade instructions as supplied by clients.
• Ensure compliance with all the relevant legislation.
• Execute departmental strategic plans
• Identify new business opportunities
• Ensure competitive products and services.
