    General Manager: Financial Planning and Analysis, and Business Partnering

    Mission/ Core purpose of the Job
    The General Manager: FP&A and Business Partnering is responsible to provide insightful financial and operational input to business initiatives, challenge key forecasting assumptions, and deliver expert financial analysis of key risks and sensitivities to FinTech business teams.

    Furthermore, the General Manager will create strategic capacity with regards to strategic financial planning and modelling, reporting, and pricing. The GM will be responsible for and lead forecasting &  business planning for Fintech Group & MTN Opco’s. Further, act as strategic financial business partner to assist business on making financial business decisions that is aligned to both Finance and FinTech business strategy.

    From an operational point of view the GM is responsible for Group & Opcos Fintech Performance measurement & KPI’s, Fintech business performance reporting and management, Strategic data analysis, new report design & Fintech project funding. The GM is also responsible for Fintech Business cases & modelling for new initiatives and projects & supporting the internal approval process for the new projects and initiatives

    As part of the leadership team, the General Manager is responsible to contribute to Finance’s overall strategic goals, to achieve profitable growth, and to continuously improve the operational performance
    Key Performance Areas: Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA's) (1/3)
    Strategy Development and Implementation

    • Lead the creation of the functional strategy in line with the overarching business goals
    • Ensure effective implementation of the strategy by means of providing direction, structure, frameworks, models, plans and roadmaps
    • Oversee regular review of the functional strategy and roadmap to ensure its alignment with the changing dynamics of the internal and external ecosystem
    • Develop and manage the execution of the organisational Strategic and Operational business planning and forecasting aligned to Finance and Finco mission and vision.
    • Design and Co-ordinate the cascading of the business plan targets and KPI’s to the relevant business units
    • Consider the future reality and align planning against the strategic intent of the company
    • Develop financial plan for short-term strategic view and ensure organisational alignment to company plan
    • Develop re-forecast on a periodic basis through the year and align to current performance and economic and commercial impacts

    Operational Delivery
    Functional Leadership:

    • As the functional leader of the business partnering Finance vertical, the General Manager is accountable to:
    • Establish, monitor and align the direction, strategy and results of the function
    • Lead and drive an integrated solution development and problem-solving philosophy within the function
    • Monitor true-value metrics to measure the impact and benefit of the function. Drive continuous improvement across the function

    Delivery Leadership:
    As the delivery leader of the business partnering Finance vertical, the General Manager is accountable for the following work area outcomes:

    • Contribute to development and implementation of FinTech strategy
    • Act as chief advisor and strategist providing needed support to the FinTech function with respect to the identification of financial risk and long term financial effect of business decisions (through Financial Scenario Analysis)
    • Support Opco’s through modelling and business case process for new projects and initiatives
    • FinTech business performance reporting and management, including the interpretation and making recommendations to FinTech management, Group Exco & Group Board
    • Drive the yearly business planning process to ensure that there is strategic alignment
    • Oversee development of new performance management reports which supports management decision making
    • Regularly review and modify financial scenarios / outcomes and create models for financial planning & analysis across the FinTech Team, including strategic data analysis
    • Ensure coordination with Group Finance in finalising corporate performance indicators and budgets
    • Oversee and manage board submissions as part of Board Packs
    • Support and coach MTN Opco’s throughout the monthly, annual reporting cycle & BP cycle by ensuring that the requirements of the Group and needs and requirements of business units are reconciled
    • Oversee Group Fintech business plan on a monthly and quarterly basis to account for changes and actual performance to plan
    • Evaluate potential impacts of new business opportunities on Business Plan and support the development of correspondent business cases for Exco approval
    • Contribute to the implementation of cost containment strategies in line with business strategy

    Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)
    Education:

    • Minimum of 4-year tertiary degree (Bachelor’s Degree in a Finance, Commerce, Accounting
    • CA (SA) / ACMA (CIMA)
    • Master’s Degree in a Finance, Commerce, Accounting, or related field (preferred)
    • Postgraduate qualification/MBA/ Certification in Financial business management (Advantageous)

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 10-12 years post qualification experience plus at least 4 years in telecommunications/ Fintech / Mobile Financial Services experience
    • Senior management track record of 5 years or more; with at least 3 years in relevant sector/ industry as per relevant role
    • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise (understanding emerging markets advantageous)
    • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies
    • Prior experience Financial Services preferred
    • Attitude of Innovation, inventiveness and thought leadership
    • Abreast of global mind-set and best practice
    • Willing and flexible to travel within Africa and Middle East
    • English speaker. French, Portuguese, Zulu, Swahili, and other African languages a plus
