    Full Stack Engineer (R&D)

    • We are looking for a skilled and innovative Full Stack Engineer to join our Research & Development team, which enables SnapScan to continuously look ahead for its technologies and possibilities by adapting to market trends, and ensuring technical diligence.
    • As a Full Stack Engineer in the R&D space, you will be responsible for picking up and running with various ideas or investigations, and seeing some of these projects through from an investigation phase, all the way until some form of validation or lack thereof is found - presenting the results to relevant stakeholders to allow them to make informed decisions for the future of SnapScan.

This exciting new position, reporting directly to our Head of Research & Development, provides a great opportunity to:

    • Work on modern tools and tech
    • Be part of the first movers in the fintech industry
    • Make a positive impact on our end users’ day to day lives
    • Use your expertise to create and shape the research and development function within SnapScan

    Key responsibilities will include:

    • Building timely solutions with cutting edge technologies which can be validated by relevant stakeholders.
    • Building user-facing proof of concepts which can be rolled out to a small community of trusted users.
    • Collaborating with third parties to get the integrations required for the above over the line.
    • Observing and documenting current and upcoming possible market trends for end users, merchants, and everything between.
    • Understanding the short and long term objectives of the company.
    • Weighing up the value that certain opportunities may bring versus their risk and effort.
    • Investigating technologies and determining how these could fit into our ecosystem.
    • Effectively handing over validated projects to relevant engineering and product teams.

This job may be for you if:

    • You are curious by nature and have a strong attention to detail
    • You are a team player. You reach out to peers and cooperate with others to establish collaborative working relationships. You understand that flying solo is a limiting and isolating choice and know that making your team look good works far better than creating a one-man/one-woman show
    • You are self-motivated, collaborative and responsive while being able to work independently and with minimal supervision
    • You have a knack for explaining complicated things simply. You communicate effectively and structure information to meet the needs and understanding of your intended audience (both verbally and in writing)
    • You are level-headed and cool under pressure. When things change, you know how to roll with the punches
    • You are comfortable with a hybrid work model and with meeting at the office when necessary
    • You value both giving and receiving constructive feedback
    • Basically, you will blow us away with your work ethic, your passion, your integrity, your attitude and your energy!

    You should be great at:

    • Being able to effectively weigh up the value that certain opportunities may bring versus their risk and effort.
    • Being able to quickly learn different technologies
    • Communicating with external parties when proceeding with integration.

You are our ideal candidate if you have:

    • Full stack knowledge - understanding the end-to-end process of technical solutions
    • Proven working experience of 3-10 years in some of the following technologies:
    • Rails (Ruby)
    • Android development (Java or Kotlin)
    • iOS Development (Objective-C or Swift)
    • Angular (Typescript)
    • Technologies to be familiar with:
    • Relational databases & SQL
    • Docker
    • Git
    • Cordova or similar native access framework
    • AWS (VPC, EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, SNS, SQS, Lambda), or similar cloud alternatives
    • CircleCI or other alternative build pipeline setups
    • Unix & bash

    Bonus points for having:

    • Knowledge and experience working in the Fintech, Financial Services industry and/or Payments industries and/or within startups & agencies
    • A Computer Science degree or similar qualification
