Key outputs

Create a safe environment for all Productive (Artisans) and Non-Productive employees to operate in by doing the following:

• Ensure daily Risks assessments are completed per Artisan to control safety risk
• Perform Toolbox inspections
• Perform monthly Safety meetings
• Daily sign off Service Reports and controlling of Productive time
• Effective control Work in progress:
• Initiating and opening of Jobs
• Quoting of repairs and rebuilds
• Ordering of Parts
• Dealing with Suppliers on outside work required (Bought outs)
• Booking of labour according to Caterpillar guidelines
• Closing of jobs once repairs and rebuilds are completed
• Ensure effective communication between team and management.
• Meeting with Customers on repairs and rebuilds required.
• Ensure service work is carried out in compliance with quality standards (OEM guidelines)
• Apply warranty policies and procedures, this includes warranty decisions and service warranty investigation.
• Resolve internal & external customer queries.
• Ensure outputs of service audits are achieved.
• Reporting of team KPI’s and prospects.
• Development, Performance Management and Training of the Productive team:
• Performance management of team – Balance Scorecard Management
• Competency development of team (Including 1 hour – training)
• On-the-job supervision
• Maintain a high level of Contamination Control and Housekeeping
• Budget and ordering of required tooling
• Support Artisans with re-usability decisions and Root cause analysis of failure of components

Qualification, Experience and Competencies

• Qualified Artisan, (Mechanic in relevant trade, e.g. Diesel Mechanic/ Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic) with minimum 5 years post-apprentice / learnership experience
• At least 10 years of Supervisory experience in the Mining industry, overseeing the maintenance and repairs of heavy-duty moving equipment (Caterpillar)
• Sound knowledge of job planning, costing and administration

Applicable product knowledge- Remove and Installation of Components, Commissioning of Rebuild Equipment, Advanced Trouble Shooting & configuration of new Equipment as per the following product range:

• Dozers- D4, D5, D6H, D7, D8R, D9R, D9T, D10T, D10N.
• Graders-120G,130G,140G,140H,140K,140M.
• Loaders-920,928G,938G,950F,950H,962G,962H,966H,988G.
• Skidders-518,524,528.
• Off highway-769,770,773,777,785,793,797F.
• Excavators-320,330,345,375.385
• Articulated dump trucks-725,730,735,740.
• Backhoe loader 416,424,428
• Knowledge of ISO 9001_2008 Quality system.
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety act (OHS – ACT) and Risk assessment
• Proven ability to produce technical reports
• Sound Understanding of Original Equipment Manufacturer warranty systems, policies and procedures
• Competent in the Caterpillar re-usability guide process for equipment parts
• Computer Literate (MS Office & SIS, ET, SAP, CRM)
• Display Leadership potential (Part of DAP) – able to achieve results utilizing talent in team
• Sound knowledge and experience of Customer interaction
• Driver’s license Code B.
