    Engineering Geologist

    Job Description

    • WSP has a new opportunity for an Engineering Geologist to be part of our Mine Waste team on a full-time basis based in Midrand. The typical role and responsibilities are to conduct site investigations, including interpretations and laboratory testing interpretation for a variety of projects, as well as conducting geotechnical interpretation and analysis, studies and reporting for a broad range of geological/geotechnical settings. Priorities will change according to business requirements, however, it is an expectation of that the candidate will also have the following:

    Key Responsibilities

    • Planning, organisation and management of geological and geotechnical subsurface soil investigations
    • Large proportion of geotechnical fieldwork (core borehole drilling and test pitting)
    • Disturbed and undisturbed soil and rock sampling for laboratory testing
    • Interpretation and analysis of the investigation results
    • Ensuring CQA records up to date and accurate
    • Preparation of reports
    • High level of Health and Safety responsibility for self and team

    • Must have good communication skills for interaction with clients and other engineering disciplines.

    Qualifications
    Skills and Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science (hons) in engineering geology or related engineering discipline.
    • At least 8 years’ post-graduate experience, with at least 5 years’ experience consulting experience (preferably conducting geotechnical and engineering geological investigations for civil and resource infrastructure and buildings).
    • Professional registration with SACNASP
    • Experience in specification and interpretation of geotechnical field and laboratory tests, collation and interpretation of geotechnical data and preparation of factual and interpretive geotechnical reports. Experience in Africa and South Africa. 
    • Must be knowledgeable in:
    • Diamond Core profiling, soil profiling (SANS 633), dolomite assessment (SANS 1936)
    • Foundation investigation – embankments and civil structures
    • MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook. Preferably also Rockware and/or Geo-Slope packages
