Engineering Estimator - Head Office at Redpath Mining

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Matric certificate/ equivalent
• Trade Certificate / Engineering or other relevant qualification
• Work well on computer packages
• 10 years planning, scheduling & execution of mining projects / tenders
• 5 years’ experience in engineering field, more specifically in trackless mining and shaft sinking projects
• Worked in a production environment

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

• Compilation of general contractor’s schedules that feeds in the BOQ (Bill of Quantities)
• Estimating of Engineering Tenders
• Utilising of mining programmes
• Compilation of information for tender submission documents
• Knowledge of the Mine Health & Safety Act and Regulations
• Industry knowledge on Mining and Construction Equipment

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare analysis of projects to include preliminary methodology, equipment selection calculations, life cycle cost, labour efficiencies
• Visit site and record information about the overall Mine, conditions, management, availability of services such as water and electricity
• Review labour and Engineering requirements, to decide the most cost-effective solution.
• Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
• Enter production rates
• Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
• Prepare estimates for planning, organizing, and scheduling work
• Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
• Analyse blueprints and other documentation to prepare the tender build up estimates
• Prepare and maintain a directory of Engineering suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
• Conduct post tender analysis on lost bids to ascertain whether our bid was competitive, met the Clients requirements, and an alternative approach that could be used
• Assist sites by answering queries relating to Engineering
