    Director Recreation and Parks

    Requirements

    • The City of Cape Town is looking tappoint an experienced, results-driven, energetic leader who has gained a solid mix of operational management experience and strategic leadership capabilities to direct its Recreation and Parks Department.
    • A relevant Bachelor’s degree
    • Extensive managerial and functional experience at a senior level, with a proven track record demonstrating the ability tmanage a large and diverse mix of operational and professional teams within a
    • parks and recreation environment
    • Sound knowledge of legislation applicable tLocal Government
    • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills and ability to interface at a political level
    • Driver’s licence and own vehicle.

    Key Performance Areas

    Recreation Framework, Strategy, Programmes and Services:

    • Provide strategic direction trecreational programme planning and delivery and the co-ordination of programmes across the Department; lead continuous business improvement
    • Political reporting and liaising with the public and community structures, including NGOs and NPOs
    • Consolidate the Institutional Framework that regulates interaction between the City and the Local Sports Fraternity
    • Establish partnerships
    • Facilitate the implementation of strategic projects
    • Conduct research and ensuring the implementation of infrastructure development plans
    • Policy development; ensuring the compilation of service level agreements and ensuring that recreation infrastructure plans are aligned tthe City’s Development Plan and Spatial Planning
    • Ensure that an effective and on-going cemetery function is delivered tthe citizens of Cape Town
    • Manage horticultural services and ecological conservation
    • Ensure sound financial management
    • Manage the human resources within the department ensuring a climate conducive tpromoting and sustaining motivational levels, productivity, performance and improving the quality of work-life is cultivated and maintained
