    Data Operations Specialist - Umhlanga

    Description

    • The Data Operations Specialist participates in the management of infrastructure and procedures that enable data gathering, storing, and retrieval. This position ensures that data is secure, usable, and fits the objectives of the company. Maintain data quality and put data governance standards into practice are the responsibilities of data operations specialists.

    Data Architecture

    • Design and implement company data tables, data structures and associated components to ensure the alignment to business processes.
    • Work across multiple teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications, including data streams, integrations, transformations, databases, and data warehouses and setting data standards.
    • Collaborate with company management and information technology teams to define the data architecture framework, standards, principles, and data management strategy.

    Data Engineering

    • Implement processes and systems to monitor and optimise data pipelines, pools, structures and tables for performance and reliability.
    • Design and implement data pipelines and data stores to acquire and prepare data.
    • Apply data engineering standards and tools to create and maintain data pipelines and extract, transform and load data.
    • Establish and maintain comprehensive data pools to support various business needs.
    • Regularly update and enhance data pools to accommodate evolving requirements.

    Data Analysis

    • Use automated tools to extract data from primary and secondary sources.
    • Carries out routine data quality checks and remediation.
    • Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of leading-edge analytics systems and processes, taking complicated problems and finding detailed solutions.
    • Clean and verify data by removing duplicates, errors or outliers to ensure quality of data and accuracy of interpretations and reporting.

    Data Governance

    • Design of models, policies, rules and standards that govern the organisations’ collection, storage, arrangement, integration and use of data.
    • Introduce new ideas and improve on existing solutions in line with established frameworks and governance.
    • Contribute to shaping, development and implementation of data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to establish data governance best practices across the company.

    Requirements
    Knowledge, skills and attributes:

    • Good attention to detail
    • Analytical mind with an inclination for problem-solving
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work in a team-orientated, collaborative environment.
    • Planning and organising skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and adopt a logical approach to work.
    • Process orientated with comprehensive documentation skills.
    • Working and conceptual knowledge of building and maintain physical and logical data models.
    • Proficient in SQL, Python and ETL tools
    • Understanding of database design principle
    • Ability to create and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and customers.
    • A willingness to keep up to date with developments in new technology.
    • An understanding of information legislation, such as the Data Protection Act
    • Ability to manipulate, process and extract value from large, disconnected datasets.
    • Conversant with data modelling and data integration techniques

    Education and training:

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent
    • Relevant certification

    Experience:

    • At least 5 years’ working experience in a similar role or related field
    • Experience with architecture and design of secure, highly available and scalable systems
    • Experience with writing scripts using scripting language
    • Experience working with data sets and ordering data through various functions
    • Experience working with internet technologies
    • Experience dealing with internal and external stakeholders
