    Business Compliance Officer - Cape Town

    Compliance Manager - Cape Town CBD

    • As the Compliance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring legal, governance, and risk compliance within the organisation. Your role will be largely focused on compliance matters, especially ensuring that the business is compliant with various European legislation due to the nature of this global business. The business in SA is a small concern but there are many compliance rules and regulations from various European counterparts that you will need to keep on top of.
    • Some of your responsibilities will be ensuring the Company, management and employees are in compliance with applicable Company policies and governance procedures. You’ll also ensure the Company stays abreast of developments from a regulatory, compliance and legal perspective on a local and international level. There will be some drafting of contracts (but not a lot) and you will manage legal contracts, handle litigation matters, and maintain a compliance register.
    • You’ll be a key player in strategic direction, focusing on data privacy governance and compliance with regulations such as GDPR and POPIA. If you enjoy making strategic decisions, problem-solving, and fostering a data protection culture, this role offers a fulfilling opportunity. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for Company secretarial duties, implementation of the internal audit and risk obligations and maintain legal documents, contracts and compliance screenings amongst other things.

    What you’ll need

    • You will be required to have a minimum LLB degree with 3 years of experience in a corporate environment. We’re ideally looking for someone that’s got experience working with various European legislation, understanding the different legal systems, especially in a big, listed company environment. Your experience in compliance, governance and risk is key.
    •  You need to be able to demonstrate a history and ability of working independently and proactively. You are the only Legal guru in the SA entity so you’ll be required to lead and guide management and their employees. To also understand that you’ll need to be hands on because of the nature of the role.
    • We’re looking for someone with strong organisational skills, attention to detail and eagerness to learn. Also, you’d need to be assertive and confident – able to hold your own in a debating diverse culture.
    • Please note that you will be required to travel to Europe on the odd occasion, maybe once or twice a year but nothing is set in stone.
