    Cloud SysOps Engineer (Absa AWS Platform)

    • You will be a Cloud SysOps Engineer responsible for client facing support & enablement of Application Teams across the Bank, for systems operations on the Absa AWS Platform & releases to our AWS Account Base.  Working closely with the Cloud Engineers, Cloud Security Engineers & Cloud Architects.  Applying your Cloud, systems operations, client engagement & platform engineering expertise in a dynamic Agile Team.

    Job Description

    • This includes design, development, planning, management, maintenance, and support of the core cloud infrastructure as well as working with other engineering teams in the firm.  This role provides great exposure, opportunities for growth and career trajectory in the Cloud.  Our Cloud Engineers are specialists who use their cloud skill to build our robust platform that underpins our next generation of products and digital experiences.  Constant innovation and learning are a key part of the role (and what brought us to the cutting-edge).
    • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and Absa Policies and Policy Standards.
    • Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.

    Experience and Qualifications:

    • Minimum qualification - Relevant degree or industry certification in the relevant Cloud Platform – AWS.
    • Preferred Qualification - Bachelor of Science degree in computer science or relevant IT experience.
    • At least 2 – 5 years’ experience with cloud services AWS. (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, etc.)
    • Automation, scripting, continuous integration and continuous delivery, you’ll be using Python a lot. (Ansible, Jenkins, Chef, Puppet)
    • Familiarity with application development in Python, Java, .Net, Ruby or Go is a plus.
    • Cloud infrastructure management tools: Terraform.
    • Experience working in a support customer facing role.
    • Proven problem solving, technical troubleshooting and performance-tuning.
    • A good understanding of Linux, Networking, Docker and Kubernetes.
    • Understanding of cloud security, cyber security fundamentals and security automation.
    • A good understanding of APIs, orchestration, automation, DevOps, and databases.
    • Cloud management software such as AWS, Azure, or VMware.
    • Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a- Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).

    Job Duties:

    • Start of day Absa AWS Platform health checks.
    • Client support including email & client channel correspondence.
    • End-to-end support of release cycle tasks.
    • Full understanding of changes packaged within each release in-order to support the Absa AWS Platform & enable Application Teams running in or migrating to AWS.
    • AWS account support.
    • IAM permissions support, advice & guidance.
    • Client AWS network troubleshooting, advice & guidance.
    • Networking for clients which includes AWS VPC, firewall rule, NACL, proxy whitelist implementations, internet facing AWS account onboarding & private link set ups.
    • Incident support for live Applications running on AWS.
    • Assistance with larger initiatives rolled out by the Cloud Product Team.
    • Service Desk backlog grooming & triaging of client requests.
    • Respond to & investigate relevant monitoring alerts generated by the Absa AWS Platform & at times those of our clients.
    • Take end-to-end ownership & accountability of assigned client requests, with resolution in the quickest possible time.
    • Contribute, when required, to forthcoming releases comprising of enhancements to the Absa AWS Platform or enablement of AWS Services for general consumption.
    • Adhere & contribute to the Cloud Product Team’s branching strategy when fulfilling tasks.
    • Conduct peer code reviews.
    • Contribute to & update the Cloud Product Team’s document repository.
    • Knowledge share with clients & the Cloud Product Team on various forums.
    • Fulfillment of technical debt & bug fixes when prioritized.
    • Ensure pipeline health of AWS accounts are green after effecting changes.
    • Self-study to remain relevant.
    • Identify opportunities to improve or automate current processes.

    Education

    • Bachelor's Degree: Information Technology
