Campus Vice-Principal (post level 5) (Contract Appointment: five (5) years, with the possibility of Reappointment For a Further Term) (Job ID: 5785) at University of the Free State

Duties and responsibilities

• Provide administrative leadership and general management in the following areas:
• Student Academic Services
• Library and Information Services
• Examination Division
• Faculties’ assistant deans on campus
• Other related matters as required to support the campus principal
• Conduct academic planning and development.
• Coordinate all campus graduations.
• Lead and support research development.
• Provide strategic leadership for the Afro Montane Research Unit.
• Work closely with the local community, business, government and other relevant organisations.
• Work closely with various local and international research linkages.
• Utilise knowledge and experience gained to strengthen engaged research initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with deans and the registrar to ensure seamless delivery of service within relevant portfolios.
• Develop and guide a cohort of young academics and researchers.

Inherent Job requirements

• A doctorate (NQF Level 10).
• A proven academic and research track record.
• A minimum of five years’ middle management experience in academic and research management.
• A credible research record that allows the UFS to consider the preferred candidate to be appointed at least as an associate professor. Candidates already on the professoriate level will be required to have these evaluated in terms of UFS criteria.

• Sound knowledge and understanding of university governance structures and academic trends in higher education.
