    Associate Financial Markets Specialist

    • The main purpose of this position is to conduct high-quality research and analyses of selected financial markets, particularly focusing on equities, commodities and portfolio flows, with the objective of informing executives of market developments.
    • Furthermore, the incumbent will be expected to contribute to documentation for various committees of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), such as the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), the Financial Stability Committee (FSC) and the Governors’ Executive Committee (GEC).
    • The position also requires participation in internal and external committee work, as well as committee administration.

    Detailed Description

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

    • Oversee the delivery of project benefits and monitor post-implementation reviews to ensure the sustainability of project solutions. Conduct high- quality and relevant short- and long-term research, analysis and interpretation of markets, and contribute to the research of senior colleagues.
    • Formulate an independent opinion on financial markets and instruments.
    • Produce daily, weekly and quarterly reports on financial market developments, under supervision.
    • Provide inputs into presentations, and present as called upon in meetings.
    • Coordinate the collection, and maintain a database, of financial market data.
    • Assist in the preparation of input into the documentation for MPC, FSC and Governors’ Executive Committee (GEC) meetings.
    • Contribute to strategy projects.
    • Engage and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
    • Assist with committee administration and provide secretarial services.
    • Keep up to date with daily changes in market conditions and with any new developments in own field(s) of expertise.
    • Perform ad hoc tasks, as required.

    Job Requirements

    To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of:

    • an Honours degree (NQF8) in Economics and/or Finance or an equivalent
    • at least two to five years’ work experience in the financial markets environment.
    • knowledge of quantitative methods
    • proficiency in PowerBI, R or other similar languages

    The following would be an added advantage:

    • proficiency in research methodologies;
    • proficiency in Microsoft Office and Bloomberg; and
    • knowledge of, and skills in international finance and/or central banking.

    Additional requirements include knowledge and skill in:

    • analytical and conceptual thinking abilities;
    • written and verbal communication skills;
    • availability to work irregular hours on an ad hoc basis;
    • report-writing skills;
    • planning and organising skills;
    • decision-making skills;
