    SUPERINTENDENT : RISK CONTROL

    Job description

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    Risk Management

    • Review all risks mill-wide to determine high level risks and Implement relevant and appropriate plans to  eliminate/ reduce/mitigate risks to the mill.
    • Ensures the mill’s emergency preparedness and response plans via simulations/drills.
    • Ensures that the mill’s emergency response team is adequately equipped with the skills, resources and training as required during an emergency.
    • Ensures the integrity of the mill’s fire prevention and protection systems via periodic maintenance to enhance fire protection
    • Ensures Mill REA in respect of Insurance Requirements
    • Oversees Mill Security Department
    • Engagement in networking amongst neighbouring companies, including the municipal Fire Department to implement programs or initiatives, of a mutual interest and benefit

    Health & Safety Management Systems

    • Maintains and ensures the sustainability of the OHSAS 18001 health and safety management system via an integrated SHEQ management system.
    • Co-ordinates the mill’s auditing protocol on health and safety management systems (internal and external).
    • Monitor health and safety performance and maintains records through effective document control system
    • Co-ordinates risk assessments mill-wide and ensures that these risks are continuously reviewed and closed out
    • Ensures legal compliance to health and safety laws and regulations mill-wide.
    • Implements proactive measures to curb injuries and other safety incidents mill-wide.

    Legal Compliance

    • Mill Legal Compliance Officer for Environment and Hazardous materials
    • Keep abreast of new legislation with respect to SHEQ through various means including consultation with the groups various legal consultants.
    • Liaise with Companies attorneys to ensure Mill legal status pertaining to SHEQ requirements
    • Ensure the various role players within the mill are informed of this legislation.
    • Consults & negotiates with Government Organisations (Department of Labour) for permits to operate and also to achieve legal compliance
    • Makes recommendations to the General Manager when to take corrective actions to achieve legal compliance
    • Coordinate Legal compliance audits
    • Participate in investigations with Dept of Labour, SAPS and other government organizations

    REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

    • Three year degree/diploma – Environmental Health/Safety Management
    • Certified as an Auditor
    • At least 5 years relevant experience
    • Computer literate (MS Office Package)
    • SAP experience
