    Superintendent Health and Safety

    Job description

    The successful incumbent will be responsible for the management and implementation of Safety, Health, Environmental, Risk and Loss Control Programmes for the Marble Hall and Lichtenburg Depo and farming operations. A Safety Supervisor is a key member of the organisation as it is their responsibility to ensure a continued process of improvement in the standards of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment.

    Key Performance Areas

    • As a Safety Superintendent it will be your responsibility to provide direction and guidance to the management team and employees on occupational health, safety and environment related issues within the workplace.
    • The Safety Superintendent is required to maintain and regularly review all related documentation inline with legal requirements. You will also be required to issue updates and ensure documentation is easily available to all personnel, as well as provide training as and when required.
    • Manage and implement Health and Safety Programs and ensure legal compliance to relevant safety legislation at the sites.
    • Ensure that all incidents are investigated & reported.
    • Reporting performance and need for improvement to the Site Managers
    • Organize and facilitate internal and external audits & surveys.
    • Conducting induction and other statutory training needs analysis for all levels training and other related training
    • Promote compliance and ensure adherence to OHS Act and related legislation.
    • Conducting SHE Risk assessments according to legislation and company policies and procedures.
    • Ensure proper Incident / Accident reporting, investigation and close out.
    • Evaluate Health and Safety systems including shop floor evaluations and devise action plans.
    • Ensure ISO 14001 SHE and site security.
    • Active participation in continuous improvement activities (SQDC/Kaizen etc).
    • Ensure adherence to Safety Standards.
    • Arrange monthly Safety meetings and prepare monthly safety report.
    • Maintain & improve KES.
    • Conduct and evaluate the information obtained from the Job observations.

    Requirements

    • A valid OHS Diploma or equalvant as minimum
    • Computer literate in SAP and MS Office Packages
    • Fluent in at least 2 official languages
    • Valid drivers license with no accident record
    • An OHSAS 18001 certificate would be an added advantage
    • A minimum of 4 years SHE experience (in a similar position) in a Engineering, Manufacturing or Agricultural environment
    • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (LRA, BCEA, OHS Act)
    • Ability to enforce safety compliance
