    About The Role

    The successful candidate will be required to perform tax risk reviews as well as provide tax advice to clients which includes the implementation of tailored tax solutions.

    Required Qualifications

    Essential skills and experience

    • A relevant professional qualification and a minimum of 3-4 years VAT advisory experience OR
    • CA/CIA with relevant knowledge of the tax laws with at least 2 years VAT/Tax experience.
    • Newly qualified CA(SA) with Tax elective will be an advantage

    Desirable Skills Or Attributes

    • Good understanding and knowledge of the tax laws (focus on VAT and Tax
    • Administration Acts, Income Tax and Customs Act would be an advantage) and the application thereof to client problems;
    • Good business acumen and knowledge of various industries;
    • Excellent attention to detail;
    • Proficient research skills;
    • Excellent business writing skills;
    • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure;
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
    • Excellent organisational and time management skills;
    • Customer focus driven;
    • Ability to coach and motivate junior staff;
    • Takes initiative on personal development.

    Responsibilities

    Particular focus areas include:

    • Manage a range of VAT assignments reporting to Managers and or Partners and advise clients on a variety of issues such as: improving margins, identifying risk, structuring, compliance, VAT accounting and mergers and acquisitions.
    • Liaising with clients and colleagues to provide Tax Consulting Services.
    • Producing high level VAT opinions that add value to clients business.
    • Research on technical issues.
    • Handling ad-hoc tax issues, including advising on new tax legislation.
    • Perform tax risk reviews based on internal audit methodology, i.e. assess, evaluate and test the design adequacy and operating effectiveness of tax related financial controls.
    • Coach and mentor junior staff and work closely with senior staff.
    • Management of billings, debtors and assignment budgeting.
    • Compliance with risk management procedures.
    • Provide opinions on audit issues relating to tax balances on financial statements, where necessary
