    Project Risk Analyst

    Job description

    Job Purpose

    The successful candidate will be required to, but not limited, take full accountability for the development and implementation of a complete end to end risk management programme for Discovery Group on par with best practice.

    Outputs and Accountabilities

    • Assist the Project Risk Specialist with the implementation of an overall risk management process for project and change management which includes:
    • The embedding and maintenance of the Group Change and Project Risk framework throughout the business.
    • Capacitating users of the framework through appropriate training and guidance.
    • Monitoring compliance to the framework.
    • Manage the process of identifying, analysing and evaluating risks that may pose a threat to the achievement of business objectives specifically brought about through change efforts. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
    • Facilitation of change, project and operational readiness risk workshops (with the business unit Project Manager) for high impact projects.
    • Provide guidance and support to the business unit project managers in facilitating risk workshops for projects.
    • Working with the risk and project officers in establishing and maintaining the principal risk profile, risk registers for the project, ensuring that there are no gaps in the management of specific risks and risk categories.
    • Reviewing, challenging and validating the risks identified by the first line of defence risk resources.
    • Facilitating the development of risk mitigation strategies for all material risks by defining the appropriate solutions to mitigate and manage identified risks.
    • Assist with the implementation and reporting of project KRI’s and risk incident/loss reporting
    • Challenging and validating the bottom-up Change and Project risk control self -assessments.
    • Coordinate and conduct internal control assurance reviews on projects to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and goals, the effectiveness of internal controls, and if the risk is being managed as planned.
    • Performing special and ad hoc reviews as required by the Project risk specialist or Head of Risk.
    • Assist with monitoring and reporting of all material risks to the relevant steering committees/management forums. This includes the following:
    • Attending project steercoms and relevant management committees.
    • Following up with project risk management and champions in the first line of defence on monthly progress.
    • Develop, monitor and regularly report on key projects and residual risks on a Group wide basis. Consolidated monthly risk reporting in the form of the Project Risk dashboard
    • Perform risk event reporting and provide a detailed analysis of the event including the qualitative and quantitative impact to the business and remedial actions.
    • Reporting to the relevant Boards, Risk Committees and Management in order to ensure that the material project risks pertaining to their business are being managed.
    • Written reports to the operational areas within the business outlining recommendations with respect to improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, governance processes, and facilitate risk assurance outcomes with clients.
    • Engaging with the Business Unit Risk Officer’s on a regular basis as to how the change risks impact the Business Unit risk profile.
    • Providing the Business Unit Risk Officers with project/change risk information for inclusion in the Business Unit risk reporting process.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Minimum Bachelor of Commerce Degree or equivalent
    • Relevant risk or internal audit qualification
    • At least 5 years of experience in an enterprise Risk environment
    • Relevant legislative knowledge
    • Advanced knowledge of Excel, word and PowerPoint
    • Advanced working knowledge of ERM processes and programme development, risk policy development and combined assurance Advantageous
    • Working knowledge of an IT risk system is advantageous
    • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry is advantageous

    Experience

    • Risk Management skill or experience
    • 3-5 years industry experience
    • Appropriate Medical/ Clinical training/ experience
    • Advantageous - 12 months or more experience within Discovery Health Clinical Departments
    • Advantageous - Basic Knowledge of Discovery Health Product and Protocols
