Job description

The ideal candidate for this role will become a part of the Server Team and will be responsible to run projects, contribute to technical designs and provide support covering a range of technologies to the business

Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

• Operational support
• Complete service requestsincidents assigned by Service desk timeously
• Keep the business constantly updated when incidents arise, the duration thereof and on resolution
• Mentor other technical specialists and desktop engineers
• Production support
• Monitor server/infrastructure and datacentre environment
• Responsible for diagnosis and resolution of incidents on server infrastructuredata centre across all sitesplatforms
• Ensure timeous recommendation and implementation of improvements to environment and processes
• Provide professional service to the business
• Project support
• Advise and maintain best practices in projects
• Manage and run technical projects from start to finish and assist in other projects from a technical aspect
• Ensure all projects are completed from technical aspect (Monitoring/backups/etc)
• Focus areas
• Build and maintain relationships with vendors
• Ensure platform is designed and maintained to industry standard
• Keep up to date on technologies and recommend advancements which enhance the environment
• Continuous growth and improvement of services
• Corporate governance
• Adhere and contribute to change control processes
• ICT admin processes (time keeping, leave capturing, etc.)
• Complete documentation as required (Technical and Corporate eg. Incident Reports)

• Will be a part of the standby roster and will need to work after hours when required

Requirements

Qualifications & Accreditations

• Linux Certification or equivalent experience
• Qualification in virtualisation andor clustering andor storage will be an added advantage
• Relevant MS certifications (MSCE, etc.) will be an added advantage

Experience & Skills

• 5+ Years as Technical Specialist Server Engineer (with a focus on OpenSource Technologies)
• Open source Operating Systems (Linux + support of LAMP/LEMP stacks)(management and support thereof)
• Monitoring Software and Systems (PRTG / SCOM / Zabbix / Cacti / Nagios)
• Server Virtualisation (VMWareKVMLXDHyper-V)
• Cloud hosting experience (AWS Azureprivate)
• Proficient in scripting
• Experience with Docker/Kubernetes/LXC will be advantageous
• Storage Areas Networks (NetApp preferred) will be advantageous
• Good knowledge of hardware and data centre management (Dell / HP Blade Chassis / etc)
• Good understanding of network concepts
• Windows Operating Systems (incl. troubleshooting, patch management and usage of roles & features etc.) will be an added advantage
• Desktop Virtualisation (Remote Desktop ServicesHyper-V) will be an added advantage
• Backup management (EMC Networker) - nice to have
• Good knowledge of SCCM, database concepts and MS Clustering will be a nice to have
