Principle accountabilities:
Underwriting (UW) Advice:
- Provide technical UW & rating advice & acceptance of risk within UW guidelines to Relationship Managers across all classes of insurance business
- Interpret technical information
- Remain abreast of local developments on all classes of business & discuss with Senior Underwriter
- Interpret the survey report requirements and decide on actual requirements to be implemented
- Develop Underwriting solutions for profitability management of various channels
- Support new business acquisition
- Remain abreast of local developments in short-term insurance market
Balancing Profit & Growth:
- Analyse profitability of multiclaimant or renewal of individual policies & advise corrective actions to Regional Managers & Relationship Managers
- Discuss proposed amendments to pricing models & new cover with Senior Underwriter
- Analyse trends ito profitability & recommend corrective actions
- Accompany Relationship Managers to brokers to discuss large Commercial deals
UW Rules & Mandates:
- Analyse whether new and existing business comply with Santam's underwriting guidelines
- Referrals (new business and amendments)
- NQR (National Quoting Register) and vetting of new business and amendments
- Re-Insurance Management
- Advise Brokers on referrals, above mandate requests
Regional Meetings:
- Attend regional meetings when required and:
- Prepare presentations, written reports with statistical data which will be used to support business decisions as well as feedback reporting at regional meetings
- Compile ad hoc reports for discussion at regional meetings
Analysis & Reporting:
- Policy screening data analysis and advise COE
- Analyse UW performance of regions, interpret statistical data and summarise findings
- Manage data quality and find solutions to improve data quality for UW purposes
- Prepare presentations, written reports with statistical data which will be used to support business decisions as well as feedback reporting
Relationship Management:
- Determine & execute communication strategy internally
- Manage stakeholder relationships with internal and external business partners
Qualifications:
- Matric certificate qualification
- B degree (advantageous)
- Minimum COP or other Insurance related qualification
- FAIS compliant (NQF level 4)
- At least 5 years personal lines and 10 years commercial lines experience
- Computer Literacy
- Bilingual (English & Afrikaans
