    e-Commerce Merchandiser - HomeChoice

    Job description

    The ideal candidate for this role will be responsible for the online product marketing and presentation and will contribute to the company's key strategic objective of increasing digital sales by driving engagement with and preference for our digital platforms with the aim of further improving the digital shopping experience.

    Key Performance Areas

    • Drive the growth of e-commerce sales
    • Increase e-commerce sales by prioritising the right products for showcasing, compelling online presentation of all products and effective up/cross selling tactics
    • Develop and execute an online promotional calendar which supports both the digital migration of our customers and broader merchandising/sales objectives
    • Guide and enable marketing channel owners to increase online sales through the provision of data and insights (gathered via web analytics and sales reports) on customer preferences, product selection and stock levels
    • eCommerce merchandise planning
    • You will manage the relationship between e-Commerce & the Merchandise department, and as such, you will:
    • Attend appropriate forums & liaise with the Merchandise team so as to remain abreast of, and contribute, to their strategies and priorities
    • Understand and communicate to the e-Commerce team, plans & timings for the introduction of new products
    • Coordinate eCommerce plans so as to align with and support the above
    • Plan for changes required in navigation or opportunities for grouping products better
    • Work with in –house creative and content production teams:
    • Brief in any product/promotional landing pages required to creative production team
    • Brief in product videos
    • Work closely with the photographic studio to ensure all required product images are available
    • Work closely with print production to agree ‘online call to actions’ in print material
    • Continuously optimise all merchandise categories on the website for optimal customer experience and sales
    • Manage monthly inventory refreshes
    • Each month you will be required to co-ordinate the work across multiple teams to execute the monthly refresh of our site inventory. This includes:
    • Development, communication of and adherence to the the “go-live” calendar with key stakeholders (across Merchandising, Marketing and IT teams).
    • Coordinate the provisioning of products across online platforms
    • Ensure Merchandise team requirements are met and relevant stakeholders approve the content
    • Be responsible for and sign off on content prior to deployment
    • Ensure the content “go-lives” are deployed on time across all platforms
    • Online merchandising analytics and reporting
    • Compile, issue and present the required, weekly and monthly online merchandising reports
    • Continuously analyse performance and report back to eCommerce and Merchandise divisions with recommendations for improvement
    • Use Google Analytics (and other relevant tools) to understand online customer behaviour – identifying areas of strength, weakness and opportunities
    • Online content integrity and quality assurance
    • Ensure all appropriate checks are completed by the relevant individuals to maintain full content integrity across the site, including (but not limited to):
    • Pricing is correct
    • Product descriptions and images are correct, clear and optimised for sales
    • Offers are clearly communicated
    • Stock messages are accurate
    • Any competition/promotion details and Ts&Cs are correct
    • Merchandising promotions are accurately and suitably displayed
    • Competitor and external analysis
    • Monitor and analyse the market (local and international) to identify threats and opportunities the business needs to be aware of
    • Constantly stay abreast of developments in the field, bringing the relevant new ideas to HomeChoice for implementation

    Requirements

    Qualifications & Accreditations

    • Degree in marketing and / or retail with a bias towards digital or alternatively similar qualification in retail and/or e-Commerce

    Experience & Skills

    • A minimum of 2 years' experience working within a retail environment, with at least 1 year within an e-commerce role
    • 2 Years + experience working in a retail merchandising environment
    • Working knowledge and experience of mobile commerce
    • Deep understanding of South African ecommerce market, preferably amongst the lower LSM consumer
    • Experience in managing content on high traffic retail websites
    • Strong web analytics knowledge (Google Analytics experience preferable)

    • A flair for retail – able to develop compelling and creative concepts that drive response

    • Well organised individual with a high attention to detail and an appreciation for creating and following processes
    • Must have excellent communication and influencing skills, and the ability to work well with a variety of people
    • Strong project manager, able to communicate clear deadlines and assertively manage stakeholders to deliver
    • Positive self-starter with high energy levels, displays initiative, and possesses a “can do” attitude
    • Ability to work well under pressure and independently if required
    • Preferably must be outgoing and enjoy interacting with people
    • Excellent problem solving skills
    • A quick learner and comfortable working with a variety of systems
    • Strong customer focus – must be able to “step into our customers shoes” and understand how they will perceive our digital experience
